I and a small group have launched a project to build a long-wished for and needed community center for Hope Town and Elbow Cay/Lubbers/Tilloo in honour of my wife, Patty Verspoor, who was a very regular contributor to this forum, and who died suddenly last December. She loved it here, made many friends in the few years we have lived here, and once noted the need for such a center. So, we are going to try to make it happen.
We have some seed funding, a project executive committee, and the use of the land behind the Methodist Mission House just across from Vernon's Grocery, a beautiful lot right in downtown Hope Town extending out and looking over the beach and sea. Getting the land was always the stumbling block in any past attempts to build such a center.
We are holding a town hall type meeting at St. James' Church Thursday, March 22 at 7PM to give details and get community input. All are welcome. We are also looking for funds eventually, and volunteers to help manage this project.
This is something that will really benefit the community and any support you can give will be most welcome by all those who live, work and play on this beautiful cay.Community Center Flyer.pdf
