HI!

This will be our first trip to Little Harbour (in March) and we're staying at See2Sea. Does anyone have suggestions/comments about beaches (okay to swim, snorkel..), day trips, etc...Does anyone have photos to post of Little Harbour? I guess our first meal will be at Pete's Pub....sounds like fun!

Thanks!
Cathleen

Thanks a lot for the photo! Looks really laid-back and fun! It was 3 degrees this morning at home. We need this vacation. Any more tips or other Little Harbour info? Have a great Monday!

you should be aware that meal choice at Pete's pub is limited, mostly hamburgers and beer. there is a restaraunt at Cheerokee Sound and you can buy groceries there too --- but shopping first in MH would be far better. And, a rental car would be useful because there is no public transportation from Little Hbr and very few services there .....

Good info. for us-thank you! Does Pete's Pub serve fish? We plan on renting a minivan once we fly into Marsh Harbour. We're going with our Moms. So....grocery shopping in Marsh Harbour is a good idea before going to the rental house? Do you know if swimming/snorkeling is good in Little Harbour? Have a good day!

Little Harbour

Eat at Pete’s Pub in Little Harbor www.petespubandgallery.com (besides burgers, they often have fresh fish and do a good job with it).
Visit the Johnston art gallery.
Snorkel at North Beach.
Hike to the lighthouse.
Visit the caves.
Walk, read a book, or check out that hammock.
If you have a boat, you should snorkel at Sandy Cay (part of the Pelican Cay National Park a national underwater preserve) and just 4 miles north of Little Harbour.
If you have a car you can drive to Casuarina Point which is a short drive south of Little Harbour. Go at for low tide, wade the flats, and find a few sand dollars (leave the live ones).
Visit neighboring Cherokee (nice community, groceries).
Go fishing (flyfish for bonefish, reef fish, offshore fish). I'd recommend a guide.

General Information

WOW! In one short paragraph, you've given us a list of things to do and then some. We will do all of those activities listed, but we do not have a boat. We need the exercise anyway, so walking is a good idea, too. Being trapped behind a desk all week is not good. We will have a rental car, also. By the way, where is North Beach? Thanks again for the helpful info. for our trip. Fun, fun, fun! We're getting in to Marsh Harbour late in the day (4 p.m.), so we'll have dinner at Pete's Pub.

Absolutly you should stop by the grocery store before you go down to Little Harbor. Marsh harbor has a store called Solomons that has a pretty good selection. You can get your everyday food needs there. Last year we made the mistake of going to the house first becasue we were tired. When we woke up we had a hard time finding something to eat late in the evening. Thank goodness we met Carlton the cab driver...he saved us. I recommend you plan your meals and make a list on the way down. Who wants to spend more time in the store than you need to? Also, if beer and alcohol are on the list, stop by the liquor store too. More stores in Marsh Harbor might save you a little money.

Hi! Appreciate the arrival tips for our Little Harbour trip. What kind of meals did you plan before you went down to Little Harbour? We need as much help as we can get. Where did you stay? Thanks.

If you have a rental car, you've got it made. Little Harbour is really "getting away from it all" and that's part of its charm. But with the car you'll be able to drive into Marsh Harbor and catch a ferry to any of the cays. Go to Hope Town and climb the lighthouse, Man of War and shop for local handcrafts, Great Guana and rent a golf cart and barhop your way across the island. Each cay is different and wonderful in their own way.

Yes, we need to get away from it all, esp. the traffic in this area (about an hour south of D.C.). Anyway.....we will take your suggestions and do some island-hopping. Looking forward to it! Thank you.

fyi, most stores are closed on sundays... depending on when you arrive, you may want to bring a little food with you..

The caretaker of the rental would probably be more than happy to pick up a few things for you before you get there.

No, I don't, but whoever you are dealing with as far as the rental would know.

You have such a beautiful home. We did check out your website before deciding on See2Sea in Little Harbour. Ultimately we wanted to stay on Great Abaco. Maybe next year, we'll visit your cottage. Thanks for the info. on Solomon's being open on Sundays. Great news!

Boy, you're getting a lot of info. If you don't want to hassle with grocery shopping right away there is a new service in Marsh Harbor called Abacoease that will provision for you. I haven't used or heard any comments about them but they have a website at abacoease.com. It looks like they charge 20% of the order but they'll deliver it to your cottage.

Good day,
Besides Pete's there are no restaurants in Little Harbor, or Cherokee.
There is a small grocery store in Cherokee, and a gas station,(both closed Sundays) but nowhere to buy alcohol.
I would e-mail Pete's to be sure that they will be open when you arrive, schedule varies.
Pete's usually has burgers, fish, conch, and Crawfish (in season).
e-mail if I can be of any assistance,
R.

My wife and I taught school in Marsh Harbour for 2 years. We live in downtown Fredericksburg, Va. and have property in Little Harbour. E-mail me your phone number and we can give you some helpful info. I just joined the forum today. Wish I was in Abaco now as we will be down to 9 degrees on Friday and are having furnace problems.
