I was just in Guana Cay for a few wonderful days. I have now been down there in several different times of year. I noticed though that the water was a bit greener this time of year that I have seen in the past and not quite as clear. Someone said that is common during Hurricane season and something about the water coming through the mangroves. Is that right? We will be coming again in December and January and I'm trying to get to know the changes in the water that happen throughout the year. I would love it if someone would educate me on this or point me toward a site that explains the sea/ocean changes by season down in Abaco. Thanks all.

Warm water promotes an algae bloom that gives the green color to the water. When the temperature drops back into the low 80's it will become gin clear again. Most likely in the summer and goes away every fall just like "H" season.

Leaving tomorrow for Guana, was the water still warm? Where did you end up staying?

Trish, the water was very warm and wonderful. Because of the high winds though, it was very rough water and the sand was kicked up so you could not see through what is normally crystal clear water. We tried to get a little snorkeling in but just couldn't see. The weather was perfect though. We stayed at Grabbers. Jimmy was terrific. They didn't open until the day after we got there but Jimmy opened a room for us a night early. If you are flying American, though, double check the Miami to MHH flight. Call the Marsh Harbour Airport directly because the whole thing is all screwed up. The airport tried to switch over to the new runway when we were going down and the FAA had not given approval yet. So American cancelled our flight. They routed us to Nassua and then to Treasure Cay. I called grabbers and Jimmy got Troy to come pick us up in Treasure so we still got in, no thanks to American Airlines. We found out that later that day the Airport switched back to the other runway and started flying again but what a pain it was. Good luck. I am sure you guys will have fun. How long are you staying down for?

I bet it was wonderful staying at Grabbers. We just discovered it this past year and love it!

I heard about the runway situation and contacted my friend at American Eagle, they straightened it out the next day, so you were one of the unlucky ones, UGH. Hoping the wind will die down, planned a boat trip with Lincoln on GTC. We are staying until Sunday, celebrating my hubbies 50th. Glad Grabbers worked out for you. Email me if you found a builder.

Grabbers was great. Jimmy and his friends and family are fun to hang out with since it is the slow time. At night we had the resort area to ourselves. For the price per night, you can't beat it if you are in on a short stay. They have done up the rooms very well with satellite tv, fridge, two bedrooms and a nice living area. The best part about grabbers is the best place on Guana to see the sunset is right out the door. Trish, I'm glad you checked to make sure American worked out the kinks. I filed a complaint with the airline hoping for some reimbursement. I'll let you know if they come through with anything more than a "sorry". Have fun. Angie, I'm glad you guys discovered grabbers. It is worth getting there on a clear night for the sunset not to mention drinking a few too many "grabbers".
We did not discover Grabbers until our last night on Guana several years ago. While it was a fantastic way to cap off a week vacation, I really wished we had found it sooner, too.

We could not go to Grabbers at night as it was too cool while we were there but we did get to enjoy the view and the lobster nachos. You get a huge portion (enough for 2) for $17 and we still had leftovers. They have a very nice menu. One of the gals there had given my daughter a tour of the rooms and my daughter said it was REALLY nice! So glad you had a good time. Now we will be waiting for some pictures!
