My children are learning to dive this fall in the Northeast. The waters are quite cold and we are thinking about doing their open water check out dive in Abaco when we visit over New Year's. Any recommendations of dive operators patient for beginners?
Thank you.
Where will you be staying in the Abacos? There are dive operators on all the Cays.

New,
As Pat W has pointed out, there are dive operators throughout the Abacos that can handle your kid's check-out dives. Most of them can take care of everything for you and it won't matter if they've gone through PADI, NAUI, or SSI training back home. All of them are very good.
Tell us where you'll be hanging out and we'll tell you who to contact.

Make sure you get to some of the Cays, that's what makes the Abacos.;)

Contact Kay (242) 367-0350. Their website is on the yellow sidebar under Diving/Snorkel/Scuba. Kay runs an excellent operation & is located at the resort you are staying in. After over 500 dives-most on cold water NE wrecks, I have always been satisfied with her professionalism and care. Check with the resort for a package deal.

My wife did her dive training here in Texas and we contacted Troy at Dive Guana for her openwater dives. He was great, very helpful, patient, and thorough. We had some wonderful dives and experiences with him. Looking back, I wouldn't have done it any other way!

You should make arrangements well in advance. Sometimes the dive shops get booked up and you won't get in with the shop you want. Also, plan on doing your OW dives early in your stay. That way if one of the kids gets sick, or bad weather or any number of things, then you have some time to reschedule during your stay. Also, if you get certified on the front end of the trip, then the kids have plenty of time to enjoy their newly certified skills and the beautiful diving around Abaco, especially the Cays. I've been diving in many parts of the world and to me, nothing beats Abaco.
BTW, I did my open water dives many years ago with Keith at Dive Abaco. I highly recommend him.

Troy at Dive Guana did our son's open water and we were very pleased with how he approached the whole process. He is very conservative about the qualifications and if he does not feel that someone is ready he will say so. I recommend him enthusiastically.
