This afternoon I rec'd the email you see below. I know it is fake because ******* is not my eBay username, it's my username for this Board. Someone is scanning this Board and using our usernames for phishing. I sent it to the Security dept at eBay, and they did indeed verify that it is a fake. This is called "phishing" or "spoofing," and is rampant on the internet. If you get an email like this, DO NOT provide any financial or personal information without first confirming its authenticity from a secure site on the institution's web page.

The same thing happened to me with my ebay account and I reported it to ebay. I got the same message you show.
I get these scam emails ALL the time supposedly representing Ebay, Paypal & banks. dr. Ralph, yours looks pretty primitive, but some I have rec'd look exactly like the real thing, logos, security phrases, etc. ALL scams! Sadly, there seem to be evil people lurking everywhere. Make sure you report these spoof emails to the bank, Ebay or Paypal. They do prosecute if they find them.
The first time I received one of these I forwarded to e-bay..it just didn't feel right. I agree though some of these messages are very deceptive. I think the best rule is never ever respond to an e-mail request and go to a link and enter your password.
