Winds out of the east at 25 knots........

Limited experience, but one data point.

Denny,

I have obviously no experience but I was told to expect the trades to still be blowing from the east at about 15kts during April and May. After that the winds become more variable. During the summer months you can expect a land/sea breeze effect with the best sailing winds piping up in the afternoon.

I know of two different boaters who sat in South Florida for two weeks in late April/early May trying to cross, the east/SE never dropped below 20 knots!

Not a problem with us but we may need to cut that beautiful boat of yours in two since our Club's guest mooring can only handle half boats.

It usually gets a little windy with confused seas during the time you are speaking of. We call it "los vientos de cuaresma" which when combined with the gulfstream currents can make for a nasty crossing. You will find lots of boats anchored near and around Peanut Island during those days just waiting for a weather window. Some (with a mast clearing of < 56 ft) have learned and just keep heading South down the ICW to enjoy the protected waters of Biscayne Bay and the Keys until they can make the jump across in favorable conditions.
