We will be cruising Abaco beginning late October and would like any input on how laptops and/or netbooks are working in Abaco. Particularly interested in MacBook Air, HP, Acer, eeePC, Dell netbooks.

Thanks,

just got back from the abacos. Did a week long ride on a waverunner from palm beach to marsh harbor and back. Had the Asus EeePC netbook and it took a bit of a beating on the waverunner but I kept it dry and it was awesome

$349 cant be beat. Does everything a regular laptop does and even with Apples new prices you are looking at north of 1k

Happy to hear you made it back OK. I was concerned for you. How about a report on your return trip.

Dude, you are too much. Congrats, that was quite a feat. I was initially impressed that you posted before and AFTER you had made it to the The Abacos, on your fueling thread, and it was like, yeah, I'm here now. Like the poster above, I'm glad you got back OK.

I get good wifi signals in the harbors with my Asus EEE 1000H, and it's a real computer, powerful, fast, and cheap. If you have to have an cd/dvd player, buy a usb powered inexpensive one ($89 Amazon, plug and play). I used to lug my Dell laptop around on trips, and now that my computer is down to 3 pounds and 10 inches, I don't even know I'm carrying it. For the price it can be the dedicated travel computer, and it's perfect for that use. I usually rent several movies from itunes before I travel, and watch them, or not during the trip. I travel to Belize or the Abacos about once a month, the Asus has always worked perfectly, and it's very sturdy. Do some homework, get the 160GB hard drive plus Bluetooth, and see if the new model with backlit keys isn't out yet. That's gonna be big.
