Ok,
My wife and I are trying to figure out where to stay on Elbow Cay. We have never been to the Abacos before but have decided to stay on Elbow just not sure where. We have narrowed down our choices...kinda. There is the Hope Town Harbour Lodge, the Abaco Inn, or private cottages.
Does anyone have any opinions on either hotel? or is a private cottage the way to go?
We are leaning towards HTHL. We like that snorkelling is right off the beach at HTHL and it sounds like it has a nice long beach and is closer to town than the Abaco Inn.

HTHL is "in town" and has a nice pool and bar. Close to public docks and rest. but Abaco Inn is kinda away from it all and they also have a great seaside pool (recently rebuilt after the storms I think) and they have nice semi-private cottages. If your looking for a place close to food/drinks/activity I'd go with the HL. If you're looking for a more secluded retreat I'd say the Inn. Both great places.

While I have not stayed in this particular house, this would be my next choice when going to Hopetown: www.hopetownvillas.com (http://www.hopetownvillas.com/) HARBOUR VILLA.
Another one that I would like to rent also is:
www.tannykey.com (http://www.tannykey.com/) SUNDANCE.
I have stayed here and adore this place: www.elbowcayrentals.com (http://www.elbowcayrentals.com/)
NEST EGG.
All three of these are right in town.

Check out Seaspray Resort (http://seasprayresort.com/villas.htm), it has everything you want.

we rented hope chest last august, lovely cottage with easy access to the beach, very private. the beach is beautiful, the same beach used by HTHL. the cottage is very close to town and stores. definitely recommend it, perfect for a couple or a small family.

Our first trip, we stayed at Hope Town Hideaways. It is not on the beach, but on the harbor. They furnished dinghy to go across harbor to town. We didn't stay there much except evenings and to sleep except for when using the pool. On the rental boat much of the time. We were able to get plenty of beach with no bother.
The accomodations are nice and the staff was great. Kitchen, VHF radio, telephone. Ferry will drop you off on their dock. We thoroughly enjoyed staying there.

Hope chest is a great choice. I have stayed there a half dozen times over the last 12 years. Best swimming beach on the island - pink sand-top notch. A true beach house.close to town. A fun house - highly recommended

How do I look up info on HOPE CHEST? I didn't see it under Elbow Cay Rentals and couldn't find Elbow Cay Realty. Thanks.

To answer your question about a private villa versus a lodge or inn could depend on your opinion about cooking while you ar eon vacation. If you don't mind (or prefer) cooking when you are on vacation, then I would pick a villa.
