Can anyone please give me the low-down on the noseeum situation on Elbow Cay in April (and the other months as well)?

Although they are a minor annoyance to most people, I once had a miserable week at Maho Bay Campground on St. John, where I had an allergic reaction to each tiny bite that resulted in huge welts covering the backs of my legs. The only position that was comfortable was lying face-down!

Beach Dreamin,
Sand flies are not as bad on Elbow Cay as they are in other places.
If you are out at dusk, or dawn you are much more likely to be bitten.
Durring the heat of the day, or in a strong blow they usually are not a problem.
Use insect repelant just to be safe.

You won't be bothered at all in April,so enjoy laying face up

I have the same reaction to them. I just returned from Guana and have about 50 on each ankle. They will last about 2 weeks and the itching is extreme.
I continue to forget to put some serious DEET on my legs and ankles the first day I am there. Because after they get me that first day, they leave me alone.
I would recommend you also take some spray benadryl in case you do get a bite or two. It definitely helps with the itching.

Alot of people arent' bothered by them. My husband did not get one bite.

only been there once in April, for the month. Not much rain that year during that time and didn't even bother to put the netting up, and we anchored in places like inside at HopeTown and Black Sound Green Turtle. Last summer, in June, we didn't even have no see ums at Wet End, which is usually one of the worst spots. It mostly depends on the rains.

Thanks for all your advice. I think we are going to give it a go. I'm so excited - this will be our first time there and it sounds like paradise on earth.
