I heard the power has been off on Guana quite a bit lately. Have they found the problem and fixed it? We have guests coming in on Wednesday and hope everything has been repaired.

I guess we are going to buy a generator sooner than planned.

Thanks, Grant

Hi Grant. The power came back on last night and so far, it has stayed on all day today. Have they found the problem? Yes, they found the problem and made repairs on the submarine cables.

Thanks Pat,

That's great news, especially for you and Sidney! I was going to ask what kind of generators you have, so I know which ones to avoid.....but that would just sound mean.:D

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope you don't lose any more food.

Thanks again, Grant

I'm glad you're up and running again. Is the Honda gas or diesel? I know a lot of people like diesel for longevity, but does it matter? I would think gas is easier to come by and less expensive. Any suggestions?

Ours is gas run but Sidney likes it and would probably stick with a gas model if we got another one. Some people get generators that will run the whole house with no problems. If you have guests, its pretty bad if they can't flush toilets or shower or cook.

Thanks Pat,

Yeah, if you don't have power, it's kind of like camping. Even a small generator can run the water pump, lights and ceiling fans.

Can you run by the Home Depot on Guana and pick one up for us?:D

Yeah, right! If you will stop by a grocery store and buy enough meats to replace what we lost!:D We will need 6 steaks, a couple pork loins, a large package of chicken breasts, 5 lbs. of ground beef, a large package of chicken wings, 18 crawfish and a large bag of crawfish meat( we had the crawfish from March by the way). That is just what we had in our freezer!

That's terrible! That is a very big loss.:( I hope you cooked most of it and had a party. That way everybody would have you over for dinner.

I can help with the meat on our next trip, but it won't be soon enough....for either of us.

With the power issues (resolved or not) it seems to make sense to have a generator. From what I've read --
Diesel seems to have a longer life and use about 1/2 the fuel to produce the same power as gas.
Diesel prices are lower ( http://explorercharts.com/fuel_prices.html (http://explorercharts.com/fuel_prices.html) ).

But I would love to hear any pratical experiences - pros and cons of Gas Vs. Diesel.

Haven't bought yet, so any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks !
