Any opinions on Donna Sands vs. Orchid Bay rentals. We just need one for 2 people. Thanks!

I believe Orchid Bay may be a little more but one thing that peturbed me was Donna Sand's gives one day free.....her week is 6 days and gives the seventh day free! I felt that was a gimmick, I just smiled and paid the bill! We could NOT negotiate prices as we needed a 3 week rental which I have been able to do on other cays. Just my 2 cents!

when we rented a cart while at Orchid Bay Marina, and it was $50/24 hours. Not sure if they offer weekly rates.
there was no charge for gas as is charged on GTC (D+P? behind GTC marina).

Due to our ff flights on AA, we can only stay for 6 nights so we'll pay the same I guess as if we were there 7 nights :( Has anyone tried to get by on bikes...I can certainly use the exercise. How far is Shorcrest II from "town"? Thanks!

I think having a rum drink in hand would make bike riding difficult :)

It could be pretty hot for bike riding. Unless you are used to riding bikes in the heat, I don't think I would plan on it being my main transportation. I think you will want a golf cart.

Donna Sands charge $270 for the six day week with the 7th day free. It was a gas cart which I actually liked as I felt it was faster than an electric cart once I got use to the smell of the gas.

Apparently DS also has a 5% surcharge for using a credit card. Do other places do this on GC? We don't like bringing much cash with us on vacation. Are the Orchid Bay carts also gas? Thanks...everyone is so helpful on this board.

I honestly don't remember if we were charged a "surcharge" on our visa when we rented carts at Orchid Bay - but the carts are gas, and they move along nicely, even with 4 adults on board.
watch the turns going in and out to Nippers on that dirt road - a couple too many rum drinks and you may have folks falling off the cart in those turns if you go too fast.....

don't ask how I know that.... ;)

We ran short on cash last trip and I highly recommend taking more cash than you think you may need. There were several dining establishments on GTC that did not take credit cards (not sure if that is the same on Guana) and there was a surcharge if you used cc for gas (major expense when renting a boat). Also, there are the ferries, taxis, tips that must be cash. If the price of your plane tickets don't include the exit tax, then you must pay that in cash also for each passenger. Travellers checks are accepted if you are leery about carrying a lot of cash with you.

one phrase we reminded ourselves as we prepared for the trip was:
"half the clothes, twice the cash - relaxxxx, you're on vacation"
