Hello my name is Sid Eline I am Bill Hertz's "Uncle Bills" grandson. I wanted to send a message to let people know that he died on 3/16. He was in no pain and was finally to go be with his Creator. My family has spent many wonderful vacations in Treasure Cay with Bill and we know that he had many there who loved him. He has been living in Louisville, Ky with Billy Hertz and Tom at their art studio since he left TC. I never heard him complain about his health once. He was always in good spirits as long as he had his iced coffee, warm blanket and sweater-he was always cold no matter the temperature. There are so many things I could say about him and I would love to hear from you about some of your thoughts and memories of him-I get teary eyed just writing this. We are going to have a Bahamian party and send off for him at Billy's studio soon. We are trying to get a recipe for Goombay Smash. Would you please email me at sid3@elinerealty.com I would love to hear from you and read any notes you have at his memorial service. Thanks :(:):D

We hate to hear that, he has been misssed the past few years at Treasure, every time we went to TC I'd ask everyone about him and see if he was at coffee. Last I saw him he was trying to get us to watch his potcake because he was headed to the states for a visit. I remember when I first met Bill he was still selling real estate a little, we told him we wanted to buy a cheap little condo on the canal and it didn't have to be new. Well here he'd come to show us around, ignoring what we told him he took us straight to ocean blvd to homes that were way out of our price range. And again we told him, next time out he took us back to ocean blvd and the point, he was determined that is where he wanted us to buy. No excuses and then he gave up on us, he was determined to sell those properties, Ha! And coffee he kept the men stirred up I heard, I think they are worse than a bunch of women there sometimes anyway. Ha! To me Bill Hertz was a face of Treasure, he did so much there over the years he was one of the origionals! He will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family!

We had the pleasure of meeting him at dinner once at Spinnakers. He initiated the conversation and was so nice and gave us a business card which I still have in my wallet. Sorry for your loss.

I didn't know Bill, but mourn the loss of any fellow Kentuckian who's an Abaco lover. I'm next door in Frankfort & will send positive thoughts your way.....

Bill Hertz was Treasure Cay. He built the garden and beach villas, entertained locals and tourists alike, played Santa to Bahamian and visiting children at Christmas, was a great storyteller and reconteur. Oh, I forget, opened the small villa where he lived to a family of eight Haitian immigrants so they could ride out a hurricane in realtive safety. His shoes are massive; they wont soon be filled. Bill was in on TC from the beginning. He was a great guy and good friend of my late father. He was a very positive person and great addition to our Wednesday night meetings.

Hi Sid,

Dean Cavill here.
I knew your grand dad well; as well as a wild kid could, whose parents lived on
Treasure Cay for 28 years from 1968 onwards.
My memory's a little hazy, but I'm sure I also must have played golf a few
times with him, my dad Reg, and Frank Robson who were all buddies back in the day.
Our house was/is the one at the green on the 10th hole which my dad sold
around 1999.
Maybe Bill even sold my dad the lot and the adjacent one he bought.
In the late seventies my dad was encouraging me get back into college
after having "dropped out" for five years or so.
A fellow Treasure Cayer, Bill DeVry (founder of DeVry Institute/College)
suggested to my dad and I that I try the electronics program his school
offered.
My dad took me over to Bill's place, which at the time was in between
the two marina canals, so I could talk to him about electronics, ham radio etc..
which he was nuts about... at least he liked to tinker as I recall.
Regardless, I'm sure he played a small role in my recovery back to "normalicy".

Even though it's been 10 years since I've been back to TC, I'm still known "Geronimo"
by the locals, 'cause I was the first "longhair" to be a part time resident TC,
and as such, they figured I must be a North American Indian... why else?
Nigel Robson (Frank's son) was, by default, my best friend 'cause at the time,
we were the only two non-Abaconian boys that would always be there during school breaks.
Needless to say, we had a pretty good time, broke a few hearts and Visa Versa I'm sure.

Being a rock and roller, I would always find my way onto the Crow's Nest stage
with my guitar and try and inject some classic rock into the mix... much to the
dismay of the "Yellow Bird" crowd, and shreaks of delight from the younger tourist
contigent (rich brats).

So, even though I wasn't real estate "potential", the fact that Nigel's dad and Bill both
worked for the Treasure Cay Real Estate office for many years meant that I probably
bumped into Bill a dozen times a week... if not at the Manager's Cocktail Parties then
the real estate office, post office, marina, or the Hotel.
Of course, the last thing I was interested in back then was property, so I'm sure
Bill and I had few "meaningfull" discussions, but he'd always asked how my folks were,
and he'll always remain one of the characters permanently etched in my memory of
days gone by at TC.

Sorry to hear of Bill's passing, but he, like my dad, had a real good ride on
this third rock from the Sun... let's hope we're that fortunate.
Cheers from Toronto,

Dean
