Any idea how lenient or tough Bahamasair is on excess baggage? It seems you are limited two two bags total 44 lbs on the domestic leg coming from another airline via Nassau.

Can someone confirm an additional bag is $65 ea? and what is the weight limit?

The BA websight makes it rather ambiguous as to the weight of this bag. Seems like another $#%#$%.

tnx Bob

Bahamasair was very strict on my third piece of luggage. I had a box with a Roman shade in it and it weighed 1 and a half pounds. They refused to allow me to carry it on, it would have fit in the overhead storage. I paid $65.00 for the box/third piece of luggage and only paid $22.00 for the shade when I bought it.

That is horrible! No reason for that with gas prices going down so low.

Just finished paying for my extra.............. this morning.

I was flying domestic (island to island) and thought the website said 2 bags each 44 pounds, plus a carry on. But the actual rule is quite plain, 2 bags with a combined total weight of 44 pounds. And the carry on can weigh no more than 20 pounds. Marsh Harbour did not weigh my bags, but this morning in Nassau, they did.

One bag was 40.5 pounds and my other bag, which was carry on size was
26 pounds. So even if I moved 3.5 pounds into the checked bag to get my 44 pounds free, my carry on was still 2.5 pounds too much. I was charged $65.

AND if you tell them it is sporting goods they charge $100.!! The solution is simple; patronize another more customer friendly carrier!

Fuel prices have now gone down that much in the Bahamas.
Are the U.S. airlines still charging for baggage? Just asking because I have not flown since August and they were charging then.

I believe Continental is allowing one if not, then it is $15...I don't remember. I booked about a month ago. Need to check it again. I think it is awful how they do that. I understand how things are tough but they are tough for almost everyone. They should incorporate the fees in the ticket price so that you don't feel you are getting charged for everything. We figured we would bring one large bag (under 50 lbs.) and 2 legal carry ons so that I could put the books for GTC in one and odds and ends in the other. They certainly don't make traveling easy. I already don't like that part of going on vacation. Still want someone to pick up at my house and deliver to my destination....heh! heh! sounds good doesn't it? Now if we could just afford that service. I guess the airlines are still trying to make up for lost money or the high fuel costs but now that is is lower they should reconsider. Just my 2 cents.

Tell me they don't hit for $100 for a rod case!?

According to their web site they should. However the only thing consistant with Bahamas Air is inconsistancy. You would do well to have a copy of their baggage regulations printed and with you when you attempt to check in. We have heard many horror stories recently.
