Is it worth while from a price and/or variety stand point to purchase groceries other than meat (we are bring our meat) in Marsh Harbour before we go over to Man of War for a two week stay?

For "variety" certainly. You can always fill in locally. Also...you really don't have to bring meat either...good selection in Marsh.

I can't even begin to imagine how this question makes the owners of the Butcher Shop or Fish Markets in MH feel.
Maybe I just don't have enough info. do you have special dietary needs? I am on a low sodium diet and find low sodium alternative goods in every store. I used to bring back things that you simply couldn't get here when I went to the US, but that has changed, and if every thing is going according to plan, (ie: no weather to prevent the supply boat from getting here) you should have no trouble getting most anything nowadays. Gourmet potato Chips? Olives stuffed with anchovies? Pepper Nova Salmon? you bet!
Personally I weigh the cost to me in lugging, headaches, time, and weight (the same elements that affect the cost of groceries here) against supporting the local community. For me. it's just no contest.
There's even a concierge service now called abacoeasy that will shop for you and deliver it to your dock on MOW. Talk about stress reduction!!!!!
Yes it is expensive to conduct "life maintenance" here. No railways or highways to transport goods cheaply etc, but Ocracoke has the same constraints, so I'm sure you have made this decision before.
p.s. my husband was born on Ocracoke lo these many years ago when a storm prevented the family's return to Little Washington from their beach place. Now, that's what I call inconvienent!

A grocery deliver service? Wonderful! Will they conduct the shopping for us before our arrival on Elbow Cay? Appreciate any input. Thanks.

bigredhouse.......Between Harbor View Grocery and Vernon's on Elbow Cay, you'll be able to find just about everything you need including fresh fruits and vegetables as well as specialty items like cheeses. Vernon also bakes scrumptous pies and fresh breads daily. Have a great trip!

The abacoease site is adorable. I'm going to try to place an order for our visit 2/2, but do look forward to daily stops at Vernon's Grocery. He has a site under development but it's not complete yet. Thanks for the great tips everyone. I just can't wait to meet the wonderful people of the Abacos!
