Greetings and a Happy New Year to all for Montreal, Canada.

Hows it goin' eh?

Can't wait to be on the boat next week. We will be travelling from Marsh north to Powell/Munjack/GTC for a day or two and then down to Little Harbour later on. I'll have a hawaiin sling with me and wouldn't mind trying a lobster or two. No idea, however, as to where they hang out. Do you look between the cay and the outer reef in 10-20 feet? Any help for would be great. I think we will be spending most of our time north around Munjack. I will have a fishing/lobster license and do realize it is snorkelling only.

Thanks eh?

Dave.

PS - I will be dragging a lure behind the boat when we go outside the reef from North to South. What kind of critters tend to hit this time of year?Tks again!

I not going to be Lobster fishing - Just Bonefishing. I like to eat lobsters though!

Will be there in early Feb 2005. Where is the best place to buy Lobster tails either in Marsh Harbour or T.C.?

Good question Kreds and Dr. Ralph that's a great web site (some words appear on top of each other in Netscape, though). I used to fish lobster commercially on the East Coast near Connecticut, by trap, but as kids will be, we also used chicken necks and other stinkies on a string to draw them out and then scoop them up with a long-handled net. The spiny lobster doesn't have big claws so I bet it would be more interesting - and remember they need to have a legal size of over 3-1/2 inches between the eye hole and the first joint of the tail (carapace length). I'm not too sure about shooting them with a sling; size could be a problem unless you glommed onto a few really huge specimens, ones which should probably be saved to reproduce. All I know if that last year in the Florida Keys, the spiny lobsters were very small and sparse; indications are that they may be making a come-back. This might be illegal but lobsters love to get under things to hide, so we'd put some plywood out with some rocks on top to hold it down, and bait it for crabs and lobsters like in a stocking or mesh bag. This will attract the "shedders." If you're diving, put on the gloves, lift up the plywood, and just scoop them into your bag real quick. We always threw back the shorts and all the egg-bearing females (pink/orange stuff under the tail). Gotta get them in the game bag fast because they can snap & swim like heck. It sure eats good, though. The 3 B's are boiled, broiled, or barbequed! -Sam
