Hello There -

We're travelling to the Bahamas in Feb with our 15 mo. old. My wife and I have passports and we have our little guy's birth certificate. I know I'm probably being paranoid (it's a U.S. thing), but I haven't been able to confirm whether his birth certificate is enough or not. Obviously, he's too young for a photo i.d.! Anyone with similar experiences who can put this nagging question to rest?! If so, thanks for your help. JQ

I believe that the photo id requirement is only for persons over the age of 16. As long as both parents are travelling with the child, I doubt there'd be a problem.

JQ,

Go to page 6 on the Message Board. There is a long thread there concerning birth certificates. Some of it may relate to the type of birth certificate you should have for your daughter.

We travel back and forth to the bahamas every other week during the summer. Our little guy was only 5 months old when he went over for the first time and we had a passport for him. I would highly recommend getting your little one a passport. Little guy #2 will be 10 months old when we take our boat over this summer and he will have a passport.

Just my 2 cents worth!

It's easy to get photo ID's of your children through your State Drivers License Division. I have only had to pay $5.00 and have used them on my kids since just a few months old. I had to hold him while they took the picture! They just put "non-driver" on the license. We also have birth certificates that are the size of a Drivers License, laminated and all. It works out great. Plus, if by some horrible chance you become seperated from the child, you have a photo to show. (I know that sounds bad, I am not trying to sound paranoid, just cautious!) Of course the best option of all is the passport idea. Just a thought...

im from bahamas and the only id you will need for your baby will be the birth certificate.

Make sure it is the original or a copy with a raised seal on it.

we will be travelling in feb with our 10 month old son ... we have canadian passport in order, but here is my question

when travelling by air internationally, the airlines now require us to provided a notorized letter if our son is travelling with just one of us, or someone else ... but his passport does not say who his parents are, and my last name is not the same as his or my husbands, so i am wondering if we should bring his "long birth cert" as well, which states who the parents are. How do the authorize know who his parents are, and that he is in fact travelling with the right people

we travel with our passport all the time, and just want to make sure we do not have any problems, since we have to clear 3 different border agencies (canadian, american and bahamian)
