Credit Cards Accepted? Emergency Contact?

We are planning our trip to Elbow Cay and have two questions (for now!):
1) How widely accepted are credit cards in the restaurants, shops, etc? American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover? 2) What information can we give to folks back home in the event they need to get in touch with us? Our cell phone only works in the US.

Most CC are accepted with the exception of Discover, I think that this card may be used at banks or in Nassau or Freeport.The bank of the Bahamas just became the local agent for Discover, however they do not have a branch in Abaco.As far as contact if your staying at a hotel they should have phones, or if you are staying at a rental home give the number for the local manager or agent.

Another option for emergency contact is the email address cruisers@cocotels.net. This is monitored by Patti Toler who oversees the cruisers net. Most cottages and boats here have a VHF radio and use it to communicate on channels 16 or 68. If Patti receives a message she will immediately try to reach you but if you step away from the radio or turn it off she will reach you during the net which is on channel 68 every morning at 0815.
