Hey I'm staying over at the House on the Point on Gilliam Bay. Tommorow we're looking to rent a boat from Donnies Boat Rentals, and was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where to go around the island. We don't want to go far, just shelling close to the island, and a little cruising.
Any suggestions would be great, thanks

Either go south to No Name or north up to the north end of Manjack and you should have plenty of fun.Wish i was doing the same thing but alas work got in the way.

Thanks, we'll probably check out No Name tomorrow. Bringing fishing poles, food, and snorkel gear. Should have a blast.

Carl the two small beaches just to the left of House on the Point towards Long Bay are usually really good for shelling.
We like to go north towards Manjack Cay best. There is a pretty little beach on Fiddle Cay, just off the south end of Manjack (home of the July Cheeseburger in Paradise party). Up towards the North side of Manjack on the Sea of Abaco side, there is a dock you can tie up to (it is a public dock and public park there) and it is nice to explore. We have always found starfish here (alive, so take a picture then put them back). Continue north and as you turn towards the Atlantic side, there is Manjack Cove. This is where Lincoln Jones has his beach picnics. He feeds the rays and sharks his fish cleanings, so you may see a few in the cove. It is a pretty little beach for a picnic. We like to fish for yellow tail in the cut on the north side of Manjack. We use cut bait and just fish the dark spots (rocks). We usually go upcurrent and then drift back over the dark areas and do this over and over again until we have enough for supper. We used to really enjoy snorkeling off the mooring buoys around Green Turtle but the ones around Manjack were all gone when we were there last summer. There were still some by No Name. Have fun. Wish we were with you :D

Hi Carl, We're checking into House on the Point on Wed. Are there any electronic entertainment-type gadgets at all? We suspect the answer is "no", but just wish to confirm. Have you needed to use the AC? Any trouble w/the fire ants?

Hey sorry I couldn't get to this sooner. Been playing catch up ever since I got home. Hope you enjoy your trip. As you probably know now the weather has been great, and we never needed the AC.
We kepted all the windows closed the whole time, and it helped a ton with the noseeums. Way less bites this year than the previous 12 years.
Have a great time :)

Carl, Is the house you stayed at called House on the Point? or is there another name for it. We are checking out going to GTC next year after going to Guana Cay for the past three. Where can I get some info on the house you stayed at? Thanks for any help. If any one else has any suggestions for a 3/2 in the area of Gillam Bay or thereabouts I'm open to suggestions.
Greg
Cayawanna bay, Can't help you with info on House on the Point, but Island Property Management and Ocean Blue Properties both have houses on Gillam. We have only stayed in Sea Star on Gillam Bay which has 2 BRs so don't know if that would meet your needs -- one bedroom does (or did) have two full beds, though and the other two twins. It is un-air conditioned except in the bedrooms and has no TV, if those things are important to you.
We have also stayed in Bennett House, which is 3 BRs and very nice, but up by Long Bay/Bita Bay. We also stayed in Tranquility on Bita Bay but I think it has only 2 BRs but has a loft with a fold out sofa bed that can serve as 3rd BR.

JJ, Thanks for the info. I had looked at Bennett house on the IPM site and I don't HAVE to stay on Giiam bay. Long bay and Bita Bay are just as good. I love Bita Bay house and Location but not sure on being able to accomadate 3 couples. I will have to get ahold of Brad and ask him. Thanks again.
Greg
Bennett House would definitely work with 3 couples. We have three kids (and last trip brought along a fourth) so the loft in Tranquility and two doubles in Sea Star in one room worked for us, but you will defintely want 3 BRs. One of the Bennett House bedrooms has a bunk bed, but it is the kind with a full bed on bottom and single on top, so it would still work for a couple. The other two have either queens or full beds. There are two bedrooms upstairs that share a bath and one downstairs and a downstairs bath. The house has a great location. The beach right behind has rocks making it hard to enter the water right there, but it is just a few steps down the beach to sand and Bita bay. I also like that location since it is about midway between New Plymouth and the White Sound area, the two hubs of activity. I like posting photos so I will add some of Bennett House (the last one is the only one I have of inside the house -- it is roomier than it looks from outside -- note all the stained glass, hand-made by the owner)...
