Hello Abaco forum members,
I am coming with my Family on June 18th-June 23rd to fish for a week. Our Charter leaves out of The Abaco Beach Resort harbor in Marsh Harbor. We are looking for a home to rent on the beach that is in 15 minutes of the Marina. Should we look in Marsh Harbor or would Elbow And Guana Cays be close enough? Any Advice would be greatly appreciated!Would we need to rent a car? Never been to Abaco before. Thankyou!

Thanks
John

Are you renting a boat also? If not,Boat Harbour is not too far from Albury ferry dock if coming from Hopetown. You would have to take a very short cab ride though. The earliest ferry out of Hopetown would put you at the dock at 8:20a.m. , so I guess it would depend on the time your charter leaves. If you stay in MH you will not be on the beach.

gummy, there are beachfront accomodations in Marsh Harbor. They are just on the Sea of Abaco and not the Atlantic.

Do a search for Pelican Shores/Beach villas, or Regattas of Abaco/Abaco Towns by the Sea. Also numerous houses for rent on Eastern Shores. All are in close proximity to Boat Harbour.

I would agree that some places have sand on the Sea of Abaco(like Abaco Beach Resort) but I personally wouldn't consider it "on the beach". To me "on the beach" means on an ocean of some sort.Like Nipper's Beach Bar & Grill.

Fanny Bay, has a beach, Snapper point has two beaches, one in one out, Boat Harbour has a beach, Pelican beach Villias...Yep a Beach other wise they would call it Pelican Rocks. Crossing beach a beach on both sides, Eastern shores has at least 3 beaches along the shore, Mermaid reef is accessed through a beach. Witch Point by Camp Abaco has a beach. No, none of these beaches is 100 miles long, or the purest white sand that you have ever seen, or has a trendy bar like Nipper's behind it but they are beaches. They sure as heck beat the "Beach" at the local community lake here. Now Not to complain, but I am not a huge fan of the Beach by Nipper's my last trip involved digging the Tar off my foot so I could get to the piece of Glass from the Beer bottle that came from the bar. Then I had to deal with a big crowd, and screaming drunks.
I much prefer the scerene Vacant beaches of Cassurina, or Cherokee, the water is shallower, and more family friendly, you dont have that Giant set of Rocks in the middle of the beach, which had broken bottles around it. you can walk for miles at least 7 and you may see one or two people. I can fish without the worry of snagging some kid, or being stared at by some rude tourist that thinks that everything belongs to them. The best thing that Guana has going for it is the Surf..and I have found that I can get that in Cherokee. Elbow is very nice, I have not much to say aginst it, it has an amazing surf break, but the water in places can be a little too powerful for little children. I need not go into the problems with Treasure Cay....

I would Go with Half's suggestion, There are several places to rent along Eastern Shores, and many have acess to small private beach areas, big enough to lay out and get sun, or to swim from. If one had a car you could get from the farthest point of Eastern Shores in 15 min, or anywhere over on Pelican shores. So that puts Pelican beach Villas well within reach.
What ever the case I am sure that you will have a great time, even if you never get to see a real beach
The pic is Witch point, on the Sea of Abaco, its only a mile or so long, and not on an Ocean, it only has a few Live coral heads, So I guess it isnt a real beach

Wonkee, you're killin' me! Of course I've never been to Nippers Beach during the summer but I've been there many times and I think it's really pretty nice!

Maybe I'm just funny that way!!!

If I were a first time Abaco person and said "I want to stay on the beach" I would be expecting to stay on the beach, not in the Sea of Abaco. That was the whole point of the persons question. It is not your endless banter trying to make digs at me and my answer losing the point somewhere along the way.Your sarcasism is not appreciated. This message board is for information not one person trying to argue with someone that doesn't care.BTW I was posting my reply without ever seeing Half's,I was at work talking on the phone. If that was your motive. I personally consider Tina's pictures a "beach".It is my opinion and I am sticking with it.

Hi JMAC, hope you are planning on obtaining "The Cruising Guide to Abaco" (Whitesound Press & many marine stores). It will be invaluable for your charter as well as making sense of all the "beach" references and relative distances. Don't be alarmed by some of the strong opinions. We all have our "ideal beach" mine are on Green Turtle Cay, but that would be a hike!!

Not sure how this turned into a rant. John states they'll be charter fishing out of Boat Harbour for the week, and asked about something within 15 min. of there. Why would he wish to pay $20/PP round trip daily on a ferry, when the places in MH would suffice. I interpreted his request as a base for a fishing trip and not a beach vacation, which would garner a different response.
Sorry about all this, John.

A nice beach:

Key words in the orig post Abaco Beach RESORT--this is a large hotel and lots of homes for rent within the RESORT itself--you could then use the beach there, the two pools (one with a swim up bar), the restaurant, the tennis courts, the shops and of course, meet your boat at one of the docks there.

The Guana Atlantic-side beaches are gorgeous, as are some areas on the Atlantic side of all the cays. But some of those Atlantic beaches are rocky, also. And some of the most gorgeous beaches in the Abacos are on the Sea of Abaco or a cove or bay off of the Sea of Abaco: Treasure Cay Beach, Bakers Bay, Manjack Cove, Gillam Bay, Fiddle Cay to name a few. I haven't spent much time in the MH area, but I have seen some great photos from Cherokee and the Eastern Shore also. Also, as Tolerance and Half-a-Hamian stated, it seems closeness to Abaco Beach Resort is JMAC's priority.

Can we stay on topic, please? The original question was, "We are looking for a home to rent on the beach that is in 15 minutes of the Marina. Should we look in Marsh Harbor or would Elbow And Guana Cays be close enough?"
Thank you for sticking to the original topic.

I would definitely look in Marsh Harbour as it is closest to the marina without having to schlep everything back and forth on the ferry to Hope Town. I agree with HALF's suggestion. Also might check VRBO (vacation rentals by owner) for a suitable rental.

So i guess one of the 10 best beaches in the world is not considered a beach because it is not on the open ocean? it is 20 minutes from Boat Hbr by car.

If it was me and the charter was the main reason for comming, I would just stay at the Abaco Beach resort where boat harbour is and there are rooms at the hotel or Homes at the great abaco club and one can take the kiddies out to the beach at the resort.

My 2 cents.

When someone says "on the beach", that does mean to alot of people, "on the ocean". It's just a matter of interpretation. All of the Sea of Abaco beaches are beaches as well, just a matter of how the phrase was interpreted.

I guess it is all semantics, and interpretation

Is it wet?
Are the wet parts salty?
Is there sand?

Good enough for me!

Everyone's still missing the original inquiry of within 15 min. of the charter. If the charter's at 8AM, why get up at 5;30 to get ready, get something to eat, catch a $20 ferry and a $5-$10 taxi, then repeat the process. If you get into a big marlin, you could end up by Spanish Wells and then you'd have to charter the ferry to get back. Maybe I read the post wrong.
