Hi All,
We've got eight days to enjoy, starting this Saturday and would like any info that will make our experience that much more exciting.Flying into MHH from FLL and spending the night a Conch Inn, then catching the ferry the next morning to White Sound where we have a boat waiting. How far is it from the hotel to the ferry ? We're bringing the fins and snorkels and fishing poles and a copy of S. Dodges guide. Plan of doing a little off shore fishing out of Tilloo (maybe a tasty Grouper/dolphin).Is Fowls Cay one of the better Cay to snorkel? Any info on the winds in March..I'm on the coast in NC and its been howling.Anyway i have a hundred question but any feedback is appreciated. First Time Islander....

Thanks,
Andy

You already have a good start, with the right attitude and a Dodge Guide. The ferry is about 1.5 miles from Conch Inn--get a taxi and tell them you want the Hopetown Ferry to White Sound. Alburys Ferry leaves at 7am and the Abaco Ferry (right next door to Alburys) leaves for White Sound at 7am/noon and3:55pm. Winds are light right now, but will be increasing over the weekend.

:)
We made our first trip in November to Abaco and Lubbers. It was the best. :D We hope to get back soon.

Lubbers is a good location for quick trips to Hopetown, White Sound, Tilloo, Tahiti Beach and several of the other cays. So quite and peaceful.

The water is unbelievable. The people are sooooo nice.

Have fun and enjoy!

One of my favorite snorkeling spots is Sandy Cay, if you catch it on a very calm day...plenty of marine life. Filled with fish. The ride to Pete' Pub is beautiful, and enjoy all the beaches on the way down.

Don't forget Cracker P's on the way back, good food!!!! :)

The first trip is always the best - everything's new and no matter how many pictures you view, the water colors and visibility must be seen in person. You'll spend plenty of time just looking at it. Recommend you stick with just a few "must do's" - fishing & snorkeling and maybe a trip to Pete's is a good plan. Plan on spending a day in Hopetown; bring the fins & snorkels - you'll wind up there eventually, anyway.
I've been visiting for 25 years and have never, ever done all that I planned to do, regardless of how long the trip. Listen to the forecast on Cruiser's net in the morning and decide then roughly what to do, depending on weather/winds. Even so, your plan will likely change. The best plan I ever had was to make no plans for 10 days - it was also one of the best trips...

I agree - no plan necessary. Just go with the flow.

Snorkling is about the only 'must do'. If it's blowing, head over to Guana, the public beach is just across the settlement from the dock, near Nipper's. The reef is *terrific* and it's in the lee of the southerlies.

A fun beginner adventure is to find the little barge in about 9' that's between the southern tip of Lubbers and the mainland on Dodge's chart. It stands out in the water well. Big porcupines and triggers will putter around and eye you. Kids loved it.
