We have a boat moored in Man O War. In Vero Beach Florida at the moment and would like to ship a package to the boat or to Marsh Harbour that will arrive by Christmas. Package has boat things like solveants, oil, paints & epoxy etc. so don't think they'll let it go on the plane. Anyone have suggestions best & quickest way for me to get the box over there ?

Thanks - John

As the package contains boat things like "solveants, oil, paints & epoxy etc." (which are definitely HAZARDOUS MATERIAL, and you want to have them in MHH by Christmas, you have only one option left : Find a charter company, which is certified to carry HazMat. E-mail me please.

Another alternative would be to drive down to West Palm (Riviera Beach actually) and drop it off at Marsh Harbour Line(a subsidiary of Tropical Shipping) (1-800-367-6200 X3342). I am not sure about this, but my guess is that they are a lot more relaxed about hazmat stuff. Call and ask for Debbie or Sue, they have been very helpful in the past. Abacays could then bring it over to MOW. Their ship leaves weekly or biweekly.

In a way Bahama Jim is right, as Dangerous Goods by Ocean has slightly different standards than Dangerous Goods by Air. In both cases, it has to be packed, marked, labeled and documented in accordance to the specific standards of IATA/ICAO (by air) or IMDG (by ocean). Marsh Harbour Line is not packing it, so you would have to find somebody who does it for you. The Dangerous Goods Declaration has to be submitted by the shipper (there are some very specific forms for this). US Customs does have a look at these documents too for compliance purposes. It is not that simple to do it properly, but it can be done.
By the way, oil/engine oil is not considered HazMat, all other material mentioned is considered HazMat by design and definition (US DOT and IATA/ICAO standards). Major airlines have been fined big bucks for not being in compliance even for small amounts of HazMat.
Suggest you ask Vintage, if they are certified to carry HazMat (within the limitations of carrying passengers at the same time) and if they are willing to do it. Otherwise e-mail me.

If you are planning to send by boat ie palm Beach Steamship or Tropical be prepared to wait . They are running way behind and even when it gets here customs and brokerage is way behind as well. The combination of hurricane repair freight and the normal Christmas rush has things WAY behind. Even with some of the shipping companies running double the amount of trips per week there is still a lot of stuff backed up in the warehouses.
