After following the situation with Floyd via the message board, we were curious to see how our favorite place had fared. Again we stayed at Guana Beach Resort, then being run by Gorden Sadler. Nothing left of the clubhouse-restaurant-bar complex but the foundation and about half the palm trees were gone. However, the main building was completely redone and was beautiful. Along with helping us cope with our luggage never arriving, Gorden upgraded us to an upstairs unit. It was the absolute finest spot during this vacation due to it being so windy you were being sandblasted on the ocean side.

Wow, beautiful photos John. I still think someone needs to redo the Welcome sign on the dock!

rhkaplan, where'd you get the vintage paper? (I love that kind of stuff!) Looks like the place has been around since the 50's.
I just bought a book about the Bahamas that was written in 1964 and the population of the Abacos was 6,490 in 1963. The projected population in 1976 was 6,520. 30 more people in 14 years!!!!!!!! Wish it was like that here in SoCal!

Tina: Russell has collected all kinds of cool vintage Abaco ephemera from e-bay, etc. over the years. We had a "board meeting" a few years back at Grabbers's (it was still then called Sunset Beach Bar), and he brought all of his cool collection of brochures, and other memorbilia. It was really interesting stuff.
