We will be in Hope Town for Christmas and New Years and wanted to know if there are any special events going on. We have been there several times, but not during the holidays! Thanks! Wendy

Hope Town can do for you, it's what you can do for Hope Town. Your Christmas destination is a tiny community with absolutely NO commercialism. Elbow Cay and the entire Abaco Islandsl suffered two direct hits from two powerful hurricanes only three weeks apart. Hope Town is an incredibly strong, tiny community. They have a very active Methodist Church in the middle of the historic settlement. Christmas services there are magical. The Abaco Inn, The Hope Town Lodge, and Sea Spray Resort usually have nightly action and also Captain Jacks. Hope Town usuallly has a midnight Junkanoo Parade with the Junkanoo band and locals and tourists flowing thru the streets of the historic settlement. It will be a wonderful, and very different experience for your family.
You and your family will get so much more out of your vacation experience understanding that this destination is not a "Marriot" or "Hyatt" type place. The economic wheel is tiny tiny tiny. If you brought craft materials for the Hope Town School such as felt pieces, foam pieces, construction paper, scissors, glue, markers, crayons, pencils, old magazines, lined paper, children's books. The community will disperse these materials between the Hope Town Library, the church and the pre-school, as well as the Hope Town School and other tiny organizations. Your family could bring some stuff to help the community out of a really difficult tiime.
You are a lucky person to have found Hope Town at Christmas. There is a subtle spirit, nothing outright commercialized, but if you are really aware , you will FEEL what Christmastime should be like.
From what I read it appears that Wendy has been to the abaco's. So my guess is she already knows about vacationing in the abaco's. I have been to the abaco's many times and like Wendy am looking forward to a non Mariott/Hyatt holiday. However, I too have been checking the boards to see what local activities are planned. From what I have seen Wendy, Guana is having a special nite on the 29th and the GTC will have a Junkanoo on Monday the 2nd. Hope you have a wonderday holiday in Hope Town and we are looking forward to ours in GTC.

Myra and Wendy and everyone else coming to Abaco---it's sooooo easy! Just bring along a handheld VHF and listen to the Cruisers Net each morning at 0815---everyday, there are annoncements of what's coming up where, potluck suppers being organized, and invitations from all the local businesses that have something special planned...every day! There's no chance of you missing anything, even if it's on a nearby cay, you'll be informed and will know if there's a special ferry going from Hopetown, even info on how to be included. Just kick back, have that first coffee (or whatever) and you can pick and choose...

We have been to Hope Town several times which is the exact reason we are coming at Christmas--to get away from the crowds. Thank you for the additional information and we look forward to our trip.
