This came up a little while ago but I hadn't heard about it lately until my sister was called to board a Continental Flight last Sunday. The official checking carry on baggage went through her quart sized zip lock bag (with exactly the same contents that she arrived with from the US). He took out a tube a mascara and put it in her bag, then tossed the entire contents of the zip lock in the can behind him. When she asked what the problem was he said, "The contents are illegal and if you had your cell phone turned on I could take that, too." Just an FYI - the best thing to do might be to check everything and then put it in your carry on in the US. It was infuriating!

We flew home last Saturday on Continental and noticed signs posted in the MHH airport that no liquids can be carried on. This was at several of the different counters - not just Continental. Your best bet is to check anything that they could consider liquid or gel. Thanks to reading this board, I was aware that some liquids may not be allowed, so I was prepared and just stuck my zip lock in my checked bag!

I had to toss a full bottle of contact solution and two bottles of eyedrops. Was hurtin' by the time we got to KC, as three of us were wearing contacts. Nothing was posted there on the 12th to let us know, or the drops would have been in my pocket.

That's my point - it's totally arbitrary according to who's doing the checking (or scarier - what they have been told recently to be aware of). He put her mascara back into her carry on - and tossed the zip lock. In the US the mascara should have been in a zip lock. Just better to check it all till you arrive!

I agree with Rockin Robin. In June , heading to MHH leaving from LGA, NYC going throuh security there I had my medication bag in my carry on and forgot that I had put a 16oz bottle of liquid NyQuill (cough medicine) in my carry on. They looked at it, did not open it, and placed it back in the plastic bag that it was in and sent me on my way.

Alot of it is who ya know, just like Costoms comming in if they know you they will let you through without too much hassel, but if you present the slightest attitude, or have an Aire of arrogance you will be checked, and they will follow the Letter of the Law.
In most cases, not all if you are extremely polite, and they know you they are not as picky about little things. And sometimes Big
I know many of the Customs, people, and carried out a bottle of Calogne in my carry on on a recent visit. I had no intention of carrting it on I just packed it in the wrong bag. I was super polite, and Grace was given. The Bag did however ride under the plane. Point is Abaco is a who ya know place, and the appropriate Attitude will get you far.

I think we probably need to remember that the 3.4 oz rule is a US rule not a Bahamian rule so they can do as they wish. It is very true that the screening is arbitrary but an attitude will guarantee a problem with the people doing the screening. It's just easier to check your liquids until you get to the US and can sort things to your quart ziplock.

Came out of MHH yesterday, and anything liquid or gel or anything like it was coming out and going into the trash. Period. Whether in ziplocks or not. Little stuff, like eye drops, etc., just put in your pocket. They don't search, evidently.
Also, for the third time flying Continental, we were not charged the $15 exit fee. Does Cont. just cover this in their fare, or has the rule change? Tip

Great advice. We've been traveling to the Abacos for years, and know the drill. It does help to be unfailingly polite and friendly with everyone. In most cases, it is reciprocated, and in one case involving lost luggage, helped us avoid a very frustrating experience. However, even the best attitude doesn't always work when leaving the airport. Play it safe, and check everything questionable. At least until you get to the States.

I knew about NO liquids coming back. I have a big purse and it requires lots of digging to get to the bottom. I did try to take one very small antibacterial lotion--since it was all the way on the bottom, they didn't find it. It amazed me how many people ahead of me still tried to get thru bottles of water/soda and larger than 3oz stuff!

Going down, our suitcase was 1lb over and told that was an extra $25 to take something out. Coming back, same thing happened, but MH airport said no problem.
