To Molly's sister
We live in the Uk but own a house at Bluff House and are also concerned about Molly and the gang at BH.
We spoke to Susan Philips this morning - she is in the UK at the moment- and she had recently spoken to Bluff House and all was battened down and safe - including Molly.
They will keep us informed of anything they hear and we will post it here.
Looking for news on damage at Green Turtle Cay, particularly at White Sound.

Just saw an online weather site reporting 80 - 90 MPH winds this afternoon at Little Harbor and 70 MPH at Hopetown. Extrapolating, one might have hope that winds at Green Turtle did not stay much over 60 to 70 MPH for long. Anyone have first hand reports that would support this hypothesis???

just got off the phone with green turtle. estimated winds still around 60 mph. a little water in quite a few homes. for molly's sister....they have heard david at the bluff house on the radio - no reports of injuries, so i'm sure molly is doing just fine. some boats onshore (including ours, with mooring still attached.....) but the best news is still no reports of injuries!
Many, many thanks for the information on Molly. I will monitor this thread for continued reports of all on the island. You have no idea how much I appreciate your doing this for my family. If you're ever in Delaware, look up the Passwaters' family! We owe you!

Before contemplating any charter, suggest you look at the operational situation of the airfields in Abaco as well as fuel availability. Further, the operational situation of airfields on Florida's East Coast needs to be taken into consideration. Further, US Government agencies (CBP etc) have to reopen their shops in order to handle incoming flights.

The following is second hand info from a friend who left a satellite phone on GTC and had a call 2 hours ago.
The town is fine, lots of rain, debris. ...no extreme surge ,no fatalities or people hurt as far as they knew.
One person drove from town to the GT Club...2 tel poles down ,one near Donny Sawyer ,the other near the Club..
3 sailboats on the rock in White Sounds.....some shingle missing on houses....one roof gone in Black Sound [ supposedly Chris Plummer's house]....
one boat that was on a lift in Black Sound got loose and is now on the rock..
so bottom line, the road was passable....the above cannot be verified but is best of our knowledge right now,
winds still at 60mph and no power or phones....that was at about noon...

This message is from Molly through her sister Beth. It is much appreciated.
"Had another very short conversation with Molly. Your property is fine, there was very minimal damage - not even enough for an insurance claim. I get the impression that there are tree limbs down but that property damage was minor, if at all. How blessed everyone was for a storm this size and one that stayed in place so long.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do...

I hope no one will mind my copying their e-mails...
(TO Roger Phillips, FR Beth Passwaters--Molly's sister) ...Roger Race just called my parents from a boat on a satellite phone. He said that Molly had asked him to call my parents with the message that she and her family were fine, not too much damage to her house but a lot of debris in the yard. This gentleman didn't talk very long - just gave my mother that message. As you say, it sounds as though everyone is fine, which is the most important thing. Reports about property damage will probably follow tomorrow...
(TO Beth Passwaters, FR Roger Phillips) We just had a 60 second mesage on our (answering) machine from David Phillips, via Roger Race's sat. phone. Everyone on the island is fine - no injuries. Some damage at Bluff House, apparently one boat dragged its mooring and crashed into our docks and has sunk, cutting out 3 slips... Some roof damage to the marina villas but the... Yachtsman's Cottages are all O.K. Also (some damage to at least one house on the north end of the island) (Note, this suggests that at least part of the BH-Club road is open). No idea yet when they will get either power or 'phone and apparently they had 100mph+ for 36 hours, quite an ordeal with the young ones, both for Robin & David and I'm sure for Molly and Chris too, however, everyone is fine...
Sincerely, Roger
From: Beth Passwaters
To: Roger Phillips
...please extend our thanks to (Roger Race). He was able to set my parents' (and my) mind at ease with his news of Molly and family... Have you heard from your family yet?... If you hear from David or Robin or anyone else for that matter, please pass on the news.
Beth
(FR Robert Ping) Roger, thanks for relaying the message from David (Phillips). David also called here and (got) our recorder. The message was the same as yours, and he added only that their house is OK. I could hear the kids (Alexandra and William) in the background and he concluded with the observation that he may not be able to check in very regularly. However, (my son) Jim just got an "all circuits are busy" with his latest phone call (to BH), which he states suggests that the phones down there are "coming back." I have sent David an e-mail asking that he post something on coconuttelegraph.net... However, I am not sure when or if he will get to that.

Replying to Island Breeze, David Phillips called Roger and stated that he is "snug as a bug in a rug" in his treehouse (when he is not out surveying the damage at Bluff House--despite the reports, Bluff House has sustained some damage). However, from the admittedly thin reports, the "lee side" sustained minimal damage, so, my guess, for what it is worth, is that the tree houses did as well.

Talked to my brother, Tom, who lives on GTC, via satphone. His house is in New Plymouth adjacent to Laura's Kitchen. Miss Charlotte's cottage. He and his family sheltered in the New Plymouth Inn during the storm. He said the island is a complete mess. His house suffered no major damage other than missing shingles. His chickens and rooster survived the storm in the box he built for them.
He said EVERY BOAT IN WHITE SOUND except for three either sunk or went on the rocks. He said three boats in Black Sound were lost.
His sailboat was in the yard, became airborne and was destroyed!!!!!!! His Whaler survived.
He said there is a lot of work ahead of everyone. He couldn't stay on the phone any longer but said they are now trying to get ready for Ivan.

Hello Everyone
I have to say I am sorry I was given some bad information on the airports. I did see planes flying over yesterday and 2 people here told me that Marsh was open. In fact the person who first told me was the sister in law of the man that flew the plane that went over. She confirmed through another source for me that the airport was open. My husband is on his way to Marsh Harbor right now to get the real scoop and I’ll report back.. Again I am sorry for the misinformation.
But I just read this on the board
TC airport is operating

GTC-ers,
My wife and I were scheduled to be heading to the Bluff House sometime tomorrow (Tuesday the 7th).....all flights have shown OK through the airlines, but only have been getting the "all circuits are busy" message when I've tried to call to confirm my hotel reservation.
I talked to David Phillips at the Bluff House on Thurs before the storm came through and he said coming down Tuesday would probably OK.....However, I really haven't been able to get a feel from all of the message traffic on what the conditions are right now on the island.
Any thoughts from anyone on trying to get down to GTC right now? I don't want to be in the way if folks are trying to repair and rebuild, but am more than eager to pump some vacation money into the local economy.
Many thanks,
-Charlie

Hi, Charlie. I would not recommend trying to get to GTC and Bluff House yet. There is property damage in White Sound as other places on the island. I am sure everyone there is going to be busy with repairs.
We have been trying to make contact with Roger Bunker. Could someone please let Roger , Sally , Jackie or Leslie know that we are anxious to here from them. We have heard about damage to the Villa and are concerned about them. Also are David and Kathy Bethell okay?
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you go about picking up the pieces. Sorry we are not with you.

If anyone has been to the yard at Abaco Yacht Service; our trawler is in front of the building by the water tanks. We are concerned about it still being on the jacks, we heard there was a large surge. If you have any info we would appreciate it very much.

Larry and Phyllis,
thank you so much for the info on the location of the Mamselle. If in the coming days you are able to update me on the condition I would be very grateful as we need to determine how soon we need to get down there if the boat is a hazard. Again, that you for your kindness!

Dear Charlie,
Hi, this is Roger, David's father, and I spoke to David at length last night. He and the crew are all in good spirits and the damage in fact is not that great, however, due to the threat of Ivan, no shutters are being taken down so I would definately postpone your trip. Bluff House did suffer some shingle damage to one of the Club House dining rooms with consequent water damage inside, however, the Jolly Roger survived intact and the rest of the place just (!), needs cleaning up so we will be operational as soon as flights and the weather returns to normal. David did tell me that the power was now on in New Plymouth and they are working on the last couple of poles to get it to White Sound. Also, he was hopeful the Net will be up and running today, he and the others were working on it all day yesterday. When that happens all the Vonage Web phones should be working so even without Batelco up, we should be in communication.
If I can help from where I am, (we are in the UK at present), please feel free to email me at rp@oii.net, but I repeat, it's not a good time to go to Green Turtle!
Sincerely,
Roger Phillips
GTC-ers,
My wife and I were scheduled to be heading to the Bluff House sometime tomorrow (Tuesday the 7th).....all flights have shown OK through the airlines, but only have been getting the "all circuits are busy" message when I've tried to call to confirm my hotel reservation.
Many thanks,
-Charlie

Larry & Phyllis,
Thank you for your update on my Dad, Alan Werthmann. My brothers and I greatly appreciate it. Hopefully we will be able to communicate soon via phone, it sure will be nice to hear his voice! Good luck with the cleanup to everyone over in GTC!
Again, thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has supplied valuable information about GTC and the families. I have just heard Lenny and Mary Lowe and their family are all fine and well. Don & Sandra Stewart are also OK. Still would like to hear any news regarding Ricky & Leigh Sawyer, Scott & Susan Roberts, Chris & Sally Dale and James & marilyn Saunders. There is damage to some houses but i don't know any details.

We heard from a friend who had spoken with Chris Dale by sat phone day before yesterday. The Dales are on Green Turtle and their house received minimal damage and they were phyiscally fine. We will be arriving there on island tomorrow but probably will have no way to communicate out. We will be back in the states on Friday and I will update on the others then or before if I can.
Wish us well!

Hello
I am the owner of Coquette , a 27 catalina, hauled and blocked on the days prior to the arrival of Frances.
My wife and I ended a six week cruise of the bahamas and opted to leave the boat with Crystal and the roberts family in anticipation of the storm.
If you have a contact on GTC, could you please ask about her as well.

Wondering if anyone has any information on Bob Murdock's house in White Sound (between the Green Turtle Club and its villas)? We'd really appreciate any news. Sooo relieved to hear that everyone is ok, and I'm saying prayers that Ivan doesn't go in that direction!
If you want to contact me directly my email is lainey444@aol.com.

Anyone heard from or seen Norm Maggione or Pat Brooks, GTC villa?
Island Breeze

Replying to Island Breeze, David Phillips called Roger and stated that he is "snug as a bug in a rug" in his treehouse (when he is not out surveying the damage at Bluff House--despite the reports, Bluff House has sustained some damage). However, from the admittedly thin reports, the "lee side" sustained minimal damage, so, my guess, for what it is worth, is that the tree houses did as well.
Thank you. Yours was the last message that I saw before I lost my connection to the internet. I am currently in the WPB area and at least I had a little piece of mind before the lines went down here. I'm hoping to get over to GTC in the next day or two to surey the dammage to our properties and boat. I am very very thankful that no one was hurt and that the dammages sound much less than what a lot of people were expecting. It sounds like we are all very lucky!!!!

Great News! Adam Shaw returned today from GTC, called to let us know that Norm and Pat are fine. Don't know who Adam Shaw is but we(Pat's Daughters) are very greatful! Thanks to Adam Shaw, and to all on this site who have helped keep us sane through this. We in Western New York have gained a new appreciation for the dreaded blizzards!

It has been almost a week since Frances passed over.
Someone must have some idea on the condition of boats and the roberts family at AYS
If someone could post ANY info concerning the boatyard with the names of boats effected in the yard..
There are many posts from boaters concerning the shipyard and the Roberts and the condition of boats there....
I spoke with Crystal, Sue, and mr Robert Everett on Wednesday as I was one of the last boats to be hauled and blocked.
Please post some news on their situation in the yard.
Thanks everyone.

I Just talked to Allan Werthmannn this morning. The power is on in White Sound and so is the internet! Vonage phones are now working!
Anyone who is going over, Chain Saws are needed badly. Please check the Airport Thread on this forum or with the airline directly for information regarding flying with any gas powered ones, as they may be considered hazardous cargo. I believe that you can take them as long as they are new and in the original box. You will probably want to check with the airline before you get there.

Just talked to Louie & Jubb, they arrived late last night power on some places, not others. Lots of wind damage, not too bad on water damage. Boat is resting comfortably in the mangroves . I have specific updates for Jim Long & Osterbergs ( not bad!), but I don't have your numbers, please call me at the office. Hopefully more info to follow as they get around the island.

Hi. We left GTC just before the storm arrived. the folks from Rebel Razor were off the boat and staying in one of the villas at Bluff House. I haven't heard if there was any damage to that villa.
Just to let people know. We were there for Floyd and it was quite a while before the Batelco phones were back in service. I know it is frustrating not knowing what had happened to the boats or homes but please give everyone there time to get things sorted out. As more people arrive on the island there will be more reliable info sent out. We will forward any information we receive.

We are here and surprised to have power at our house. Some shingle damage which allowed water into the house and the drywall is wet, but none of it fell. Hoping it will dry out enough to save. Our lot is now at least 12" higher above sea level as we have that much sand in our yard on top of everything, including the roof! It looks like it snowed! All in all, could have been worse, but there's a lot of work to do. All the people on the island are well, and very busy. Have been documenting everything on digital and will post some pics when we get home late this weekend. Wine is cold and the sea is beautiful!

Please post any news about Green Turtle Cay and the Bluff House Gang. I'm especially interested in my sister, Molly McIntosh and her family. We're praying for everyone the islands as they go through this storm.Hi Beth, I will e-mail you shortly, just wanted to quickly let you and everyone know that we are all healthy and well here at Bluff House. Everyone is working very hard to clean up after the storm that stayed too long! Phone lines are up now and you can call 1-242-365-4247 to reach the Bluff House or e-mail bluffhouse@oii.net. Tracey, Michael, Robin, David, Troy, Evans, the Yachtsman's Cottage crew and myself are all here and we hope to have the Jolly Roger Bar and Bistro opened within a couple of days. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that Ivan comes no one near us.

Charlie,
Please give us a call 1-242-365-4247 or e-mail us bluffhouse@oii.net We cannot take you now as our restaurants are closed and the pools have taken on damage and we are very busy cleaning up the trees and the electricity and phone has been going off and on but I am sure that we will be able to accommodate you very soon. The Bluff House will be better than ever shortly and of course the economy of GTC will be grateful for your boost!
Thanks,

Sounds like alot of the ocean front property/homes got a lot of sand dumped on them. Glad you had minimal damage and look forward to pics. Stay in touch and we will try to organize our pix from pre-Francis shortly. Seemed inappropriate to get those pix out there until things settle down, but there are some great ones of the Sail Away party and you guys.

We are still on the road trying to get back home, so I will have much more later with pics, but to answer a few of the questions posted here, I'll do a short report now. Abaco Yacht Services had very, very little damage. All we saw in a brief walkabout was a single sailboat (SandDollar Basel) which fell off its chocks and barely brushed the whaler next to it. Nothing at all like Floyd. The blue houses behind the Jolly Roger all had damage. The porch roofs came off and blew back over the houses. Cruzan Lady is just fine, although she narrowly escaped being hit by Tailwinds, a sailboat which crashed into the Bluff House dock and sunk. Three other boats were on the shore of White Sound. Saw several small outboards sunk or upside down. The oceanfront homes took some hits. Bennett House roof was badly damaged and I'm sure had massive water damage. Bita Bay had erosion up around its foundation. Beach is gone there. Didn't get to Gilliam Bay. The Green Turtle Club marina store had major roof damage and water damage, and the ceiling fell. Power is on at Green Turtle thanks to the old power plant on the island running again. We were told that the school on top of the hill which housed folks sheltering during the storm never lost power, had air conditioning and they were cooking conch fritters during the hurricane! Next time we are evacuating to Green Turtle!
