I just heard on our local news and on the Weather Channel, that the storm has slowed down and is sitting over the Abacos! They say it is moving about 4 mph. If anyone gets any news about Guana Cay, please post it! My husband is still there, Sidney Weatherford. I haven't heard from him since about 10:00 this morning. I am sitting in Jacksonville, Fl. waiting to see where Frances will go or if we will be in the direct path. There is a lot of stress going on here! :(

The very complete documentation of Frances' passage over Eleuthera posted by Briland.net at www.stormcarib.com/reports/2004/bahamas.shtml suggests that Frances packed less of a punch than expected. Perhaps we can hope for a similar outcome in Abaco.
please do let us know about SC residence ..... wondering how all soles are doing there and on Guana ..... hope all are safeand healthy
Hi Pat. I am also waiting to hear from Paul, who is on the island. I am extremely anxious to hear from him and about the houses. I''post whatever I hear. Hang in there. Erin

Could be a while before we hear anything. This thing is moving so slow that at 8 pm the eye was just SW of Sandy Point, must be a lot of rain with it. The 11 pm discussion on NHC should shed some light.
Hang in there everyone.

Erin & Nancy,
We're waiting to hear on the condition of the people on Guana too. Please post anything you hear. We care about everyone on the island and pray they are safe.
Thanks guys. I am still waiting, although not so patiently today. I am pretty sure no one will hear anything until this stupid storm passes over and past Abaco. Thank you for all your prayers and concern. Erin

I wasn't around for Floyd (although I have my own Floyd stories even here in Delaware) so I'm looking for information about helping Guana Cay residents recover after Frances passes. I can handle a hammer, shovel, broom or mop and would be willing to assist those who will most likely be exhausted after riding out the storm. Any information as to whether this would be helpful and when the best time to come down would be appreciated.
Thank you Sinc and Mont for the boards which have kept us all informed.
God protect all those in harm's way.

Hello,
Everyone on Guana is safe and doing well. This was worse than Floyd in that it was long and sustained. The winds are still blowing and we look like a beach from one side of the Cay to the other.
This has been a VERY, VERY Long 24 hours. We lost the upstairs 3 rooms of our house looks like a beach up here. From everything I have heard we just have tree, water and sand damage in the rest of the homes of the Cay.

Me and the kids fled northward to Maryland to ride out the storm. Bruce is at a friends condo west of Boca. Reports from Palm Beach County not good. Huge yachts bobbing down the intercoastal, a marina at Riveria Beach in tatters and reports that the area will not have power until next week. Bruce reports no power, very hot, huge bands of rain and wind coming in with very little movement in the storm now just offshore from Palm Beach. Bruce reports many trees down, much structural damage to "big box" type retail centers. No gas whatsoever, every single business shut down, shelters loaded to the max. ANy reports from Abaco will be appreciated. Specifically Edmond and Chere, Mike and Tami and kids, Skip and Bettyann's place, Dolphin Beach, Nippers, Mr. Percy and the entire core settlement of locals, any storm surge or flooding. Godspeed to all. Nancy and Bruce and the kids

I just received an e-mail from my sister, Becky Lightbourne, in Great Guana Cay. The power and telephone lines are still out on the island; however, they were able to utilize Mike and Tammi's computer.
She reported that they were alright, but that the weather remains bad; there was no information given regarding structural damage.
If it is anything like what we got in Nassau, the tail end of the storm is worse than the front.
I am just glad that we finally got word from Guana.
Rachel Lightbourne
I have some news ... paul is fine as are the rest of the people on Guana, safe and sound. What I have heard, there have been some damge to houses on the ocean beach. I don't have a lot of specifics as the storm is still blowing big wind. Stay tuned but the PEOPLE and loved ones are fine.

Hello,
Our bedroom the guest bedroom and the main room of the house. Two shutters blew off and then the bedrooms went and then one window in the main room blew and that was it. Our whole yard is the beach without the water. I have 100’s of emails so I’ll write more later but below is a message I sent to the masses. HUGS! Tami
Hello,
I know everyone is wanting information and I have so many emails I can’t leave this computer alone so I am pasting all my response into one email so everyone has info. Hope you don’t mind the laziness. Just know that the reports from all Islands are that everyone is safe. The wind is still blowing and the waves still rolling in but it is less then yesterday.
Dudley. You lost the top part of your house so I was told. Heard there are a lot of trees down on the way to Seaside so I haven’t gotten to go down there.
I just spoke to Mendy and he said Seaside has minimal damage. Just downed trees.
Everyone is fine no injuries. We still don’t have power but I heard some phones are coming back on.
The beaches are huge and the dunes at Nippers are bigger then ever. Very little beach erosion except at Simon’s or next to him who now has a small cove. Rocks in front of Willy Whah’s. I was at Nippers yesterday had to walk through Dennis’s yard as the valley is flooded.
I heard but did not see Guana Seaside heard that trees are down over the road so I haven’t tried to get out there.
To Skip Everyone one is safe . Your house looks fine just sand blasted! You'll need a new paint job. Your beach is HUGE!
By Friday everyone will need a drink or two or three! It is worse then Floyd because it was so long. Get ready to see BROWN and nothing left on the trees that are left.
Troy was at your house and your fine! You might have gotten a little water but nothing major.Nippers is under 3 feet of sand! The beach people took the biggest hits!
See you soon Bring work gloves. Tons of tree clean up to be done.
You lost some small parts of your roof and probably will need to paint like everyone else. Everyone had water so you’ll need to dry the place out, other then that you’re fine.
Landscape worse then Floyd is what everyone is telling me.
From all the talk we hear from all the Cays no one got hurt , mostly sand, wind and water damage.
Marsh Harbor is a BIG Mess. Dr. Boyd lost the roof of his building and I heard of flooding

Hello Everyone
I have to say I am sorry I was given some bad information on the airports. I did see planes flying over yesterday and 2 people here told me that Marsh was open. In fact the person who first told me was the sister in law of the man that flew the plane that went over. She confirmed through another source for me that the airport was open. My husband is on his way to Marsh Harbor right now to get the real scoop and I’ll report back.. Again I am sorry for the misinformation. But then again I just read this on the board
TC airport is operating
We're in the Atlanta area and looking to Hitch Hike with anyone who may be flying to TC from the Southeast. I called Continental and they have flight out of Miami at 1:15 today. Still waiting any word on how the beachfront of GTC is before we come down. We'd be happy to split charter- please email me.
Thanks, Brad Barrett

The airports in Treasure and Scotland is now OPEN. Marsh Harbour remains closed . When my husband went out there it still had 2 feet of water.
09/06/04 we would appreciate hearing from the Watt's family and especially Michelle Cheney. We are sick with worry. We do however Thank the people who have helped us by letting us know that they are ok.

Just heard from Guana Seaside. Things are a mess, but folks OK.
Hi Elizabeth:
How bad are things at Guana Seaside? Did the cottages along the path to the ocean side survive? And how about the single and double rooms on the seaside, the office, the kitchen, the outdoor bar, the downstairs and upstairs dining areas, the swimming pool, the plams with the hammock, the treddle boats, the kayaks, and the sailboat?
What can we do right now to help? What do they need?

REAT NEWS!
Charter fights are able to land in Marsh Harbour and the ferry starts in the morning. I don't think regular flight are coming in becaue we don't have phones but BEC will be in Guana tomorrow and we should have power.
Progress is so sweet.
HUGS! to all!
Tami
Any updates on the power situation on Guana?

No news on the power but Nippers has a phone due to generator. I still don't have my phone on until the power comes on in the settlement.
We cleaned up the settlement today and it looks much better. The Fig Tree looks really bad we lost half of it. Every thing is turning brown as can be expected.

Thanks Tami. Poor Fig Tree! It was pretty badly damaged in Floyd as well.
Good news - the phones on Guana appear to be working. We were able to call Jenks today. We are trying to make plans to come down soon....flights are scarce. Will keep trying....

Hi everybody:
I just spoke to a person who answered at Dolphin Beach Resort (I didn't get his name). He said they had no damage at Dolphin Beach, no damage to the Blue Water Grill and no damage to the Dive Shop or the docks. He said he helped remove some of the broken parts off the fig tree and then they placed a sturdy chain around it to hold it together. Finally he said that the storm actually helped Guana --- the sandy beach is twice as wide as it has ever been. He also said that there had been no structural damage to Tamy's house --- the windows had been blown in and there was sand, water and debris.
I still have not been able to reach Seaside Village. The man with whom I spoke at Dolphin said he had heard that a couple of roofs had gone at Seaside, but I have not been able to confirm that. On the other hand, Glen had apparently told the people at Albury Ferry (which has been running) that damage at Seaside was not very serious.
I'll keep trying to reach seaside Village,
Peter

Hello,
Yes! Guana Freight is running on a regular schedule. In fact we recieved milk and vegetables to day! I wanted tomotoes and a salad so bad! Hardware stores are open. I "heard" Lowes lost part of their roof as well as Dr. Boyds office.
Looks like this weekend will be full of homeowners from all the Cays. I hope to meet everyone at Nippers on Sunday. How nice that would be with all the area home owners. Might be a first!

Hello,
You spoke to Jenks who stayed with us during the hurricane.
Guana Seaside it self has a lot of water, sand and wind damage just as many homes on the island did. The home in Seaside are fine. I have reported on several that had minor damages. In fact Dave K. is sitting here right now and his home is fine. He reports that his neighbor lost some siding and a gutter.
If you have spefic question about Guana Seaside and would like to ask Bob or Jerry Please let me know as they are at my home daily to use the internet and I would be happy to have them answer your questions or concerns. To my knowledge and conversations with Bob, Jerry, Mendy, Larry,Janet and Lisa no roofs are gone.

I'll let him know about your message in the morning as he is going with my husband to Garden Cay to check on Sam's house. HUGS to both of you!

Hello Everyone,
This will be my last post on the topic of Hurricane Francis and Guana Cay. If you would like to email me personally with questions that I might be able to find the answer to please contact me at tsiewruk@ix.netcom.com.
Several of you have asked about the damage to my house. We lost 3 rooms. What does that mean? Well we have to replace the wood floors, windows, doors, shutters and blinds in all three rooms. The great room furniture needs to be replaced from the beating it took for the wind, sand and saltwater (aprx 1 foot of sand covered most of the room, we remove wheelbarrows full of sand for hours. The electrical, ceilings and light fixtures in my bedroom and the kitchen/living and first bedroom in the apartment will need replacing. The wall next to the cistern downstairs separated from the house .My yard is now 100% beach, all the landscaping is gone! UGH! That bothers me the most. We will move out and rent a house for the time it takes to make the repairs. The good news is that now we know what to do better the next time around if there is one. A friend of mine asked if paradise is worth this and my answer was swift “You couldn’t drag me from here!” We are very lucky; I originally heard my house was hit the worst but after seeing a friend of mine house I think they got it far worse than we did. She is flying in tomorrow and we’ll all help her get it fixed.
As for the rest of Guana Cay, just about everyone I have spoken to on the beachside had some water in their house but not terrible. Some lost shingles, others nothing happened. We have a lot of downed trees and bushes. No dock damage that I have heard of. Two small boats sunk that were left in the water. We still don’t have power except for the hum of generators. Cell service is on and so are the phones if they have a hard line. It’s was great to talk to friends and family in the states. We don’t have the wireless internet service back up but we do have our satellite service. Planes are landing and the ferries are running bringing back our friends and family. The grocery store is stocked again and it’s fun to jump into the golf cart and drive into town for milk and past a few friends on the way. The VHF is very busy, so busy in fact that you can’t “Go Over” and listen to everyone! Ha!
We had community cleanup yesterday so the settlement looks better even if it’s turning a bit brown. Everyone had lunch under the Fig Tree like old times. The beaches are HUGE and gorgeous! The water seems bluer and the sand softer to me somehow. Unless you visit us in the very near future my guess is you won’t notice too much of a difference.
The children start school next Monday as it stands right now. Man was that a long summer!
May all your dreams come true!

Hi everybody:
I called Dolphin Beach Resort this morning after not having beeen able to reach Seaside by phone. A young lady (I didn't get her name) answered and offered to call Mindy at Seaside via VHF. I was actually calling on behalf of Wendy Pierce in Florida.
Mindy indicated that there was no serious damage at seaside except that some ceiling sheetrock got wet and came down. Regarding Wendy Pierce's cottages: Sandy Feet had no damage and Summer Winds had some of the tin roof torn off at the corners and had some damage to the screens. The paint on all of the buildings had been "sand-blasted."
Mindy indicated that they still do not have phone service at Seaside. I was going to ask some more questions, but the lady at Dolphin Beach became impatient and did not want to ask any more questions.
Regards, Peter
