How's the smoke in Abaco? Here on the west coast of Florida it's very heavy from the fires in north FL / South GA. I'm wondering if it has made it over to the islands?

Tuesday or Wenesday, you couldn't even see fish cays from Guana, yesterday was better, today is still a little hazy. No strong smoke smell like the last couple days.

are there still fires on the main? huge leaping flames were visible from GTC Monday night, driven by the high winds. Tues. AM, the fires had burned to the very edge of the airport & were still smoldering.

I talked with Dan this morning and he said the smoke was really bad at the harbor in Marsh today.

Are you saying that Fla flames were visible from GTC? - and near which airport??? Fla flames can be seen and the smell of smoke and the haze- all that way from Fla? Are there any problems with brush fire on the islands?

Flames from the mainland of Abaco (Great Abaco Island) can be seen from GTC!! The wildfires are near Treasure Cay Airport.

Smoke has cleared in Tampa. How's it over there now?

We got some much needed rain on the Abaco mainland today. The smoke has definitely improved. It is overcast from the weather, not the smoke today.

Monica took some pictures of the charred areas along the highway on our way to Marsh Harbour today. Will post some later.

It is very, very windy. Probably be jeans at Bahama Western Night at the Coco Bar.

Plants are already looking much better with just a couple of days of rain.

Will post pics of the windy beach later too.

Will they still have the bonfire or is it only in the winter months????

If the fires are near the airport in TC I'm concerned about the wild horses there, an ongoing problem with squatters clearing land for crops and such. Does anyone know if the wild horse preserve is okay?

Is there anything being done about putting out the fire, or are they going to let it just take its course?
