Is anyone aware of an on-line flea market which covers the Abacos? I would like to offer a couple items for sale and know that this Board allows no commercial postings.

Any ideas?

Alan, that sounds like a great idea to me as well. I have some stuff that is too good to go to the dump. Would it really be commercial if it was just homeowners getting rid of "stuff". How about it moderators??

Send some of us here in Abaco a private message with what you have if we dont need itwe will pass the word around. Or just e-mail if you find our e-mails on our profiles. This should not get moderated??????

PMs have only been removed if a Member abuses the rules above.

Are you really asking if we moderate PMs? You can't be serious! This job requires me to read each and every post. I can't just pick and chose the topics I'm interested in. Even if I had the capability to read other's PMs, I haven't the time or desire. I do have a life outside the Abaco Message Board that is far more interesting than other's mail.

There have been times when troublesome/trolling/threatening PMs are forwarded, and there is a need to take action. As far as I know, forwarding is my only means of reading PMs.

Well my PM's have been edited, so I'll only do e-mails to forward information, thank-you-very-much.

. . . . you've experienced the automatic "censoring" of content.

So, if you use some text that the owners of this BOARD would prefer NOT be used in their facility, it may be asterisked out or removed automatically through the wonders of the vBulletin Software. This is not the result of being "read" and "subjectively" edited . . . we use the same "facilities" in similar forums of our own.

This is simply the result of a set of carefully designed "business rules" that are applied uniformly on facilities like, this with any degree of integrity.

Isn't the thread 'drifting' a bit. Can we go back to Alan Brown's excellent suggestion?

I agree - what about a separate Forum here on AMB for items to sell? http://coconuttelegraph.net/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif or http://coconuttelegraph.net/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif

As far as I know, forwarding is my only means of reading PMs.I was asking for a PM or an e-mail from the poster that wanted to sell some items and offering to possibly buy them or pass the info around. Other posters are asking for you to answer there questions ( no answer yet) I said that this (post) should not be moderated as I know comercial postings are. Dont be scared of your own shadow.
I have almost spopped posting here because of the heavy moderation that takes place here, but thought I would try again as I have posted on several message boards and enjoy doing so.

Actually, I've been thinking of setting up a site just for Abaco where people can advertize stuff to sell. I would be something simple, a short description, maybe a picture or two and an email address or phone number to contact the seller. I've looked at some software to set it up but haven't set up a site yet. If and when I do get it set up, I'll contact some of the moderators here to see if I can post a link to it.

There is a long standing policy in place regarding advertising.

That said, special requests have been accommodated by allowing the post and immediately closing the thread. Prior approval is required. Use the "contact us" feature at the bottom of the page.

Would one of the moderators answer whether or not flea market posts would violate the rules of our board??

Just to let everyone know, Treasure Cay has a Flea Market/Yard/Garage Sale next Saturday, March 3.

This would be a great way of generating revenue for the "board". Everytime something is sold a "donation" would be forwarded via paypal.

Great way of expanding the utility besides providing a worthwhile function.

Everthing that can be reused or recycled is a bonus........ especially if we can reduce landfills. I have "lots of stuff" that is just too good to throw away.

I have set up a flea market/classifieds website. You can find it in the Other Abaco Sites link in the yellow side bar.

Call Monica Cook in Hope Town at 366-0052. I think she has a website that would be helpful.
