I went to book a flight in the states through Delta and got a recording that they are now flying to Bahamas--anyone have any details?

We are in the process of booking flights for an upcoming trip so this is potentially great "breaking news"! We recently used them to go to Freeport with another carrier to TCB, but starting MHH and/or TCB as Delta destinations would be very cool indeed. They used to fly there back in the let 80's on our initial trips but disco'd them around 1990.

I know Delta flies into Nassau. Have used that route before, connecting with Bahamasair to Marsh Harbour. It's possible they also fly into Freeport, Grand Bahama. There are some great fares, but they may be offset by having to lay-over and have the expense of an extra hotel stay, so do lots of homework. Airtran also flies into Freeport and can make a connect with Regional Air or Major's.
Good luck with your planning!

Unless their website is not updated yet, they show that they currently fly to :
Georgetown, Nassau, and N. Eleuthera, in the Bahamas.

sorry I dont have any other info--If true this is good news for Delta Sky miles folks (like me) who could use miles to get to (Freeport?) the Bahamas and then take a hopper to TC. I'll have to do a little more research....

we looked at this option last year ... but more complicated than just into TC Ñ from one of the big airports, puddle jumper to MHH and then Guana Ferry (don't remember which of the "big" airports off the top of my head). If I remember correctly, the way the flights were timed, an overnight would be required at least one of the ways in order to make all connections, and it wasn't really worth it for us ... But done right, the extra night could be a fun variation to the rest of the vacation ...
I'd love to see one of their partners start flying an RJ into MHH!

Since we're on the subject of airlines and I'm the researcher in this "duo" does anyone have any updates on carriers coming into the Abacos?
I know the usual suspects out of Ft. Lauderdale, Nassau and Freeport. What airlines fly out of West Palm, Melbourne, Daytona other than Vintage.
Thanks .................

In Kansas City headed back to Florida and the Crown Room Attendant checked and said they do not have flights to MHH. I really hope they start a route. Can you say frequent flier miles to paradise? The idea sends me into great exitement. Oh well, gotta catch the flight.

As the wife of a Delat Pilot, I can say that there is no planned route for Abaco anytime soon. They are adding new places in Puerto Rico, the DR, and many places down in South America, too. As for now, we are flying down in June on Yellow Air Taxi. Delta gets us down to FLL, we are on our own from there.

Delta has two flights a day into Freeport from Atlanta. The morning flight leaves Atlanta 9.42 am, an afternoon flight leaving Atlanta at 1.25 pm

I fly Delta from So Cal into FLL on a red eye and then catch Yellow Air on their 8 am flight to MH. Works great for me. It would be really good to be able to get all the way into MH without the connection. BUT then I would really miss the great service from Yellow Air. they have saved me a couple of times getting over to MH on time for the ferry to Guana. Keep working on those schedules Momshell.
At any rate we will be on Guana March 10. gettin antsy.

We always fly BahamasAir out of West Palm. Prices are better but be prepared for surprises.
I'm leaning towards Bahamasair in May out of WPB. Aside from American, I think Bahamasair is the only airline that uses the larger turbo props. Wife and kids "feel" better on the bigger planes.
How bad have the "surprises" been in your experience out of WPB? Wondering if it makes more sense to use Continental or American??

The little ditty,"If you've time to spare, fly Bahamas Air" was created for a reason. However the sooner you check in the more stuff you can bring! They are not real strict on overage until things start filling up. Vintage flys all King Air Turbo props out of Melbourne, Daytona, and NSB. You might just want to drive over.

Continental will start service PBI-TCB by Apr. not sure of the exact start but it is on the sched. for May. They currently have PBI-MHH. They fly Turbo props.
Susan
I would choose Continental over Bahamasair anyday unless time is no problem. Bahamasair personnel don't seem to care at all whether you are inconvenienced by the company or not.

Vintage has somewhat bigger planes than Yellow Air, and is also more leniant on baggage. Last time we took Yellow Air they charged "extra" for a rod case even tho we weren't over the weight limit. Also they had only one pilot and the radio was malfunctioning. My wife swears she will not fly with them again. Vintage has 2 pilots in their planes. Of course Continental allows the most weight and flies a jet, and their prices have come way down over what they were just a couple of years ago. There is also Lynx Air, although I have never used them. It pays to check around!

We just connected with Regional Air and it was the fastest, smoothest trip yet. Its also easy to charter Regional from Freeport to Abacos if your times don't match up to their regularly scheduled flights. We chartered on the outbond to TCB and caught the regular flight on return. Very nice coming through Freeport instead of Florida for sure!

They've added flights from Atlanta to North Eleuthera and Atlanta to Exuma. Only some days of the week. Starting 6/16/2007
We have not had any good experience with Bahamasair. Several years ago we booked a r/t flight from PBI to MHH. Bahamasair completely discontinued service into and out of PBI. Did Bahamasair notify us of the discontinued service? No! We found out through this board. It took as 3 months to get a refund.
We decided to give them a try for our 2007 vacation. Well, they let us down again. They cancelled their mid-week flights out of PBI. The good news is they proactively contacted us and advised we were rebooked on Continental Connections (Gulf Stream). The bad news is when I called Continental not onlty did they NOT have a reservation for us I was advised that Bahamasair DOES NOT have an inter-line agreement with Continental. My advice....stay away from Bahamasair. You have many other choices that are much more dependable.

Vintage Air has somewhat larger (and newer) planes than YellowAir, and also allows more weight. My last trip on YA, we had a 2 hour delay waiting for (?) something, I got charged extra for a rod case that was NOT over the weight limit, there was only one pilot, and the radio was malfunctioning! My wife swears she will never fly with them again. Continental of course flies a jet, allows the most weight, and their prices have come way down recently to be competitive. Not as many points of departure tho'--I think Miami and Orlando are it.
