Just saw a news article that central Florida has been hit by some very strong storms and possibly a tornado earlier today.
I hope our Board Members from central Florida are safe. That means you DP & Roz http://coconuttelegraph.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gifand all others.

It's time for a central Florida roll call. Please, let us know that you are all okay!

Go to bed knowing to expect rain and possible strong storms early in the morning. I figured it would be just another rainy day - even the kiddies were told to wear jeans and a school shirt on Friday (as opposed to their uniforms.)
Wife wakes me up at 5 am and tells me to listen... she is freaking out and I have to admit - it's freaking me out. The sound was a constant, but distant, roar. Not pitchy like the rolling thunder I'm used to. Oh boy, it could be that train sound when we don't live near any tracks.
Meanwhile the tv is telling us about all the radar swirly things and the whole area is under a tornado warning, not watch. And stuff is headed our way.
Decide to get the kids and heed the tv wethermans advice and move the family downstairs. The roar is no longer. Need to keep the family calm so we talk about what to do and that everything's okay.
Well, my sister, who lives about 3 miles away, calls and as we are talking the tv said that the swirly thing is right over us in Winter Springs. I mean he described our area by close streets, intersections, and a high school. Hang up and we go to the laundry room. After a little bit we emerge and the winds are whipping pretty good, but no roars.
We missed the tornados as they were mostly north of us but it was a very eventful morning.
My heart goes out to those who had no warning and even more so to those who died, and their families. The destruction is pretty bad where they hit.
I hope other board members will report in. I wasn't going to write anything but felt like telling the story as I haven't written a trip report in a while. We do plan on getting over to Abaco this year.
Tight lines and cold Kaliks,
