How about the option, which ever month I'm fortunate enough to be there?
Every month is fine with me!

October is the best. Humidity is down from July & August and water temp is still warm.
But I live in Abaco year round and I guess any month thats ends in THERL or Y are pretty good months too.

We love May the best. It is just beginning to get hot, but not too hot, and there are flowers everywhere.
Oh, and I am also partial to August. It is definitely not for everyone...really hot and humid. But the water is usually very calm, and I happen to love the heat!

It is a tough question. We only go in the winter to get out of the cold. But if I lived in a more pleasant climate, I would probably prefer spring months (april to June) July was like an oven to us and I would suspect that August and Sept. would be the same also being hurricane season. I guess each month has its own specialty.

Although the count is still low to come to any conclusions, I'd be curious to know the location of the voters. Northern folks might appreciate a winter getaway where Fla folks might choose another month. And then there are the boaters. Most no doubt would choose late april onward after the winter fronts die off. - Just a thought.

PS for me (by boat or fly over) May - June, November

That may be an idea for another poll. I am one of the Northern folks. New York, but my favorite time to go to Abaco is in July. I like the hot, hot weather and hanging out at the beach. But as Moderator XXX said whichever month I am fortunate to be there is fine with me.

I'm from northern Arizona and May is my favorite month to go but we did go in December once and that was definitely my husbands favorite time.

August was the best for us. It may be because that was our first trip, but there was not a soul around-ANYWHERE! We do not really eat out, so the places closing for a while did not affect us. The beaches were ours, and every morning when I had my tea on the dock, the water in the Sea was absolutely still like a lake- no traffic. It was warm, but the outdoor shower at night was the perfect touch.

Gee, I haven't had a chance to go in every month yet, so how can I say? I'm in the any month I can group!

Our best weather has been when we were there the last week of April and first week of May. Early April can be too windy for the boat some days, though we still get out most days.

In the past several years we have been down in February, October and upcoming in April. We are from Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC. The weather in February was just fine, with one rather stormy day that a long sleeve rugby shirt felt good to wear while sailing. I (50-something) didn't mind the water and air temperatures, but my 70-something father, who is on blood thinners for his blood pressure, was cold at night and in the water. Age, location and/or medications may have a significant effect on how much you like Abaco in the Winter.
During the October trip the weather was warm and humid. On the other hand the water temperatures were about has high as they get and no wet suit was necessary for snorkeling or anything else you might want to do in the water. An added treat was seeing porpoise in Hopetown harbor!
The bottom line is that in February some places were not fully open because the "High Season" had not started yet. In October a lot of places are closed down because this is when the locals take their vacations. However, lots of solitude and no "crowds" in either month.
We have been sailing in Abaco, off and on, for over thirty years. I agree with the others, any time spent in Abaco is better than than the same amount of time spent somewhere else.

I've only had the opportunity to visit the Abacos in June and September and my vote would have to be for September. The weather was perfect (just as soon as that hurricane got out of there)!

My only trip so far has been November - Just after Wilma - It was very quiet but the weather was a bit iffy and I couldn’t get out to the reef so November dosn't get my vote.
I agree with the comment that it depends were you are coming from. I love England in spring but January/February are pretty dire - so I am hoping February in Abacos (my next visit) will be the best.

Great to hear May has the most votes because that's when we'll be there this year. I've only been to Abaco twice, once in March 2006 and November 2006. Both times it has been absolutely gorgeous! There was only one day in March that it was quite windy (enough to keep us off the water) and no rain except at night (not too good for the cisterns tho'). This past November we just missed the torrential rains and it was sunny the whole time. I hope we have the same this next trip but if not we'll have a great time anyway!
104 days to go!

Looks like May won out. Although, I know golf and rental places say July 4th they are sold out.
I voted for October, mid october. I like it then becasue it is still warm days, relativly warm water and usually pretty calm. NO BUGS either..plus, great discounts on everything since its still the off season and no crowds whatsoever.

Early June.
Winter seas have subsided as wind clocks around to more southerly than northerly. Temperature warm, but not yet brutal. Crossings from South Florida much more manageable. Water temp climbing.

As many of you have said, "any month is good!" However, our family has been there in March, June, July and October. I have to say that October is my favorite. It's warm, but not unbearable. June and July are quite hot and humid, but hey, at least we're on the beach and not at home at work! The March weather we experienced was on the cool side, although definitely warmer than home.
Now that our kids are in school we can only go during the summer. Counting down until the last week of June and the first week of July!!! ;)

We have spent Thanksgiving and Christmas in Abaco during their school holiday and created lasting memories.

We've thought about spending holidays, but as expensive as it is for us to fly, we want to make the most of it by spending a couple of weeks. I'd love to be able to afford to fly down for a long weekend, but the budget won't allow it. :(
Although retirement is still 20 years away, I envision hubby and I spending a lot of time in Treasure Cay eventually.

Actually I'm glad to see August so low on the poll. That means there still will be hardly any people, and we will have nippers pool all to ourselves again next August. Next trip March 24th! BAREFOOT AT NIPPERS! ;) But wayyyy too many people!
when do you typicall go in August? Dates??
