Just completed reservations for our flights to MHH last week. We will spend the week of March 10 - 17th at Shorecrest II during that week and we are planning on doing some diving with Troy Monday and Tuesday of that week.

This year we are flying into Nassau and will be there for about five days prior to going to Guana. We have our reservations all set and are wanting to get some diving lined up for the days we will be in Nassau.

We plan on spending a couple of days with Stuart Cove, but would like to have some options as to other dive shops in Nassau. Just wondering if anyone has any experience diving around Nassau and could give us some suggestions as to some of the best diving there. We will have about five diving days there before we head to Guana.

Thanks, in advance.

Walt.

Try to dive the Lost blue hole with bahama Divers. They usually dive it a coupel days a week. It is on the eastern side of nassau and is an offshore Blue Hole that starts in about 35 feet and drops down well below the range of SCUBA. Good dive

When I worked at Bahama Divers, the Lost Blue Hole was our most popular dive. They used to go out there, weather permitting, on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

Basically, the Hole is about 100 yds. in diameter and drops to about 180 ft. at the center. It is a neat experience, especially when the reef sharks arrive to conduct their spring courtship rituals. At that time you're apt to see any number of sharks swimming in and out of the hole. Also, bring your flashlight as there is a tunnel extending into the wall at around 70 ft. that you can swim into. Inside, you're apt to see lobsters and nurse sharks. Along the top edge of the hole are various coral formations that house eels, lobsters, and other interesting critters.

All this being said, the BEST dive that Bahama Divers offers is the second dive of the trip, Barracuda Reef. I doubt if you will ever visit such a colorful, healthy, and fish-full reef. This was always my favorite dive when I worked for BD's.

Fish Hotel and Trinity Caves were also enjoyable dives. Other than Shipyard, the wreck dives aren't that good. Cannonball or Thunderball Reefs are good afternoon dives.

I hope you enjoy Nassau!

Try Nassau Scuba Centre at Coral Harbour (362-1964) as well as Stuart Coves. Both operations are very professional, although as I completed my AOW with NSC, I'm partial to them! Depending on your level, I would recommend one of the wall dives to 130 ft., dropping off to 6500 ft in the Tongue of the Ocean. Awsome! You'll see plently of sharks and other fish off of Clifton Pier and they'll swim alongside, under and over you. There are some deep dive-throughs (tunnels) they'll take you to, wrecks (boats and planes) and some shallower reefs for longer bottom time and more colour. Try to book a night dive, too. You'll have a ball. From memory, Bahama Divers sites are more to the north of the island and tend to be drift-dives. Entertaining, though.

Note; Nassau Scuba Center has been closed for almost a year now. Along with DIve, Dive, Dive & Divers Haven & Splash & Coral Divers & Sun Divers.
Only two dive operations left in Nassau, Bahama Divers and Stuart Cove's.
It's not an easy business, but's it's a lot of fun!!

Thanks for that update. It's a shame these guys went out of business. Sorry to hear that. Anyway, good luck to all the Abaco dive operators and continued success!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Since there are only two active dive shops that narrows the options down, ha.

We will try to spend a couple days diving with each shop. We definitely want to do the shark feeding dive with Stuart Cove's. Then the Blue Hole sounds like a must dive as well.

We are also looking forward to a couple days of diving with Troy and Maria at Dive Guana after Nassau.

Well, Troy and Maria are great assets for Guana.

Last year, Claire's luggage didn't make it to MHH from Dallas. Maria spent lots of time helping us with get her luggage and my keys and cell phone. Troy also made some phone calls and pitched in as well. Then we rent his 23 footer for a few days as well.

I am hoping Troy will be able to take us out on a couple of night dives this trip.

For those of you heading to Treasure Cay, don't forget to visit Treasure Cay Divers. Brent White runs a great operation!

Unfortunately that information has not been updated in several years!
A lot more bouys and new dive sites out there.
The dive shops around Abaco do a great job finding new, different and interesting dive sites. Check with them to dive the best locations.

Frogies Dive shop is operating out of Hope Town and is a full service dive shop doing several trips a week. They run a great operation. Several great spots to dive and snorkle are in the visinity of Lubbers Quarters and areas to the south your hosts or caretakers can possibly give you some local knoledge or tell you who can.

Just curious if Troy and Maria come back to this thread. Troy do you do any night diving around Guana? What about wreck diving?

Their email is included so you can ask them directly.
Hope this helps.
