View Full Version : religious, national holidays and festivals
You all have helped before, so I am hoping you can this time. I am trying to plan a wedding in May or June 2008. I have googled trying to find a calendar with May and June 2008 holidays for the Bahamas. I am trying not to interfer with some holidays and maybe incorporate some. The only international web pages that I have found do not cover the Bahamas. Can anyone help? I have all the tide and moon chart information but I can't find info on holidays.

Look on the yellow sidebar under General Info. Those are the annual dates of holidays - as well as lots of other info.

Labor Day (Bahamas) is the First Friday in June. Whit Monday is approximately 7 weeks after Easter. These are both public holidays in the Bahamas. Depending on Easter, these holidays sometime coincide to allow for a 4 day weekend . The Island Roots Heritage Festival is usually the first weekend in May. The 2008 dates have not been set. This festival is on GTC..not a holiday, but you didnt say where in Abaco and if GTC it could affect housing etc! Hope this helps!
Thanks to all-Since I am looking at 2008 some of the resources are for 2006-07 years. I was told that in 2008 labour day weekend 2008 is Friday May 24 - Mon May 26? Now I am completely confused. I was plannig our daughter wedding for that weekend but was told this would be a holiday weekend. Our daughter will be married in Hopetown. So I was recheduling for the weekend of June 8th.
Thanks to everyone-It was the US memorial day that they wanted to avoid. My bad. Thanks

For future reference, Labor Day in the Bahamas is ALWAYS the FIRST FRIDAY IN JUNE! Its Whit Monday ( A religious holiday related to pentecost) that varies according to Easter!

remember that when a Bahamian says Holiday they mean HOLIDAY! We take it pretty seriously over here, our holidays....it's kind of our national sport :-)
