Going to Guana in early November with my family. We were supposed to go to the Caymans but Ivan destroyed the place where we were going to stay. I spent quite a bit of time looking for an alternate vacation spot. Guana fits our interests (beach, snorkeling, nature) very well. This will be our first time visiting there. We have a cottage at DBR and I'm looking for any tips on visiting the island. This will probably be our last family vacation where we are all together for quite some time and I'm trying to make it the best possible. Thanks for any info.

DBR is great. Blue Water Grill has the best food. Nippers is the party spot and has good food too. Just more casual. Easy's is the best spot for sunsets. Hook up with Troy at Dive Guana, located at the docks at Blue Water Grill. Go out with him a day or two, maybe rent a boat from him another. Bakers Bay is worth seeing. Hope Town might be a good day trip. Or do as I do, and just chill out on the beach and catch up on your sleep.

Stayed in the Sail Loft at DBR in August and had a great time - some thoughts:

After you've packed, take out half and leave it behind - everyday is a casual day...make sure you've checked baggage limits and fees for local carrier...books...VHF radio (the island phone) to tune into the daily broadcast of Cruisers' Net, daily, 8:15 am...bring your reg and/or dive computer but rent the rest of your equipment from Troy at Dive Guana...once you arrive, put all watches in a drawer - the sun will give you all the time info you need...bring or get bug spray soon after arrival...rent a golf cart from Donna - small wheels are fine - drive on the left...visit Milo for fresh fruit and veggies...take a full day trip with Troy...dive/snorkel at Elbow Cay...visit Johnnie and the crew at Nipper's - enjoy the pig roast on Sunday...be prepared to truly relax to the unique rhythm of Guana Cay.

You'll end up thanking Ivan for steering you to the Abacos and Guana. I was actually researching the Caymans when someone mentioned this board as a good Caribbean board.
