Abacomah,
This world just keeps getting smaller. My family used to belong to the Lake Murray Sailing Club in Chapin. I spend all of my summer weekends on the lake racing lasers and thistles from 1979 to 1981.
BahamaAngie, I went to college at Rutgers and met my wife at Point Pleasant NJ. I have a couple of good friends that are your daughter's age from Tom's River (Sue Horning and Lee Sermarini (sp?)).
I am 38 today and will be 39 tomorrow.

ABACOMAH,
I wish I lived on a sailing cat somewhere in the sea of abaco, but I now live in Wellington Florida. I still tell my kids about the 3 years I lived in SC and how during that time I never swam in a pool unless I was in Florida on a vacation. We spent a ton of time swimming in lakes and had no interest in a pool.

Lubbers is our favorite cay, but we own some property on Tilloo and hope to build a home there in the next few years and make it our new favorite.

My first visit was in October, 1951 and split growing up between Cherokee Sound and Kansas City, Kansas. We have six kids (that's why we're not living on Abaco yet), two sons-in-law and five grandkids with the addition of twin boys born this morning at 10:59, and all are eagerly awaiting me and Grandma getting ourselves settled on Abaco so they can move back in with us! We're hoping the Lord treats us well real soon and allows the move. Waiting is sure stressful!

Dogfish, We have lived our entire lives in NJ. Originally from North Jersey and down here for 33 years. I have a niece that lives in Point Pleasant. I just asked my daughter if she knew your friends and she said no. Toms River is a very large town, We have 3 public high schools and a Catholic High School.
My kids, went to Montclair, Monmouth and Stockton. My youngest went to Johnson and Wales in RI.
We first started visiting TC in 2001 and got hooked. Were traveling to Hawaii before that and quite honestly couldnot find a beach we liked as much as TC. Have only stayed on that cay. Prior we use to go to Paradise Island. No comparison, Abaco is much better!

Can't say I'm under 50...Our first trip was to Saga Point in White Sound on Elbow in 1999. Great House! Since then we've stayed on Lubbers, Tilloo, & Green Turtle; loved them all but Green Turtle is the best for us. Just finished our house there this spring. Hope to be back Oct or Nov. We, my husband and two sons live in VT, but I can't wait until I can spend the winters on Green Turtle Cay!
I am 48 and live near Orlando in Longwood, FL, with husband and three kids. I am originally from the FL panhandle (Ft. Walton Bch). We have three daughters, ages 18, 15, and 13. I brought the 18 yr old home today from her first semester at Univ. of Florida (Go Gators!) so our money is going there right now instead of trips to Abaco :( . My husband and I traveled to Man O War and Treasure Cay in the late 80's. We went back for the first time with the kids in 2000 to Green Turtle Cay and that has become our favorite cay. We have also stayed on Guana.
And to whoever it was who hails from Chapin, SC, I have cousin who lives there in a neighborhood on Lake Murray.
I'm 24 from Lenexa, KS. My first trip to abaco will be april 2007 for my honeymoon! I'm so excited from just reading these forums the past week or so. I can't stop dreaming of what it will be like from reading your stories and seeing your pictures!

I'm 57 (wow), can't be really, can it? Used to go to the Florida Keys every winter for 14 years, until I decided to check out the Bahamas. Went online to check it out, and guessed that I might be able to run my 25 CC boat across to Abaco. We drag the boat from Windham NH to Jupiter FL right after Christmas, and cross to Abaco for the winter. We rent houses either on Lubbers or in Hope Town. We have bought land on Lubbers and hope to build as soon as possible. Peg and I were married in Hope Town in March this year. As you may know from my web name, I love to fish.

My husband and I are in our mid-50s. His father's parents are from Hopetown. We took his father back there some years ago and it was amazing. He found his mother (my husband's grandmother) in one of the old class pictures from the school in the museum. We love Hopetown best. We were last there in May 2005 to celebrate our 34th anniversary. Our gift to each other was a lot on Tilloo Cay but we haven't started building yet. Still working hard here in Kentucky to earn the money! We have two kids who also love Abaco. We love this board!

I'm 51 and my wife is 48. You may be able to guess where we live (Charlotte, NC). We first visited Man-O-War with our daughter after reading an article about it in the local newspaper in 1985, and we loved it. It took us 10 years to get back there, but we've been regular visitors ever since.

We live in an area (Charleston County, SC) that must have the highest concentration of Abaco fans in the Country. I've been to Nippers and had it look like a party in Charleston given the number of neighbors we encountered there. I am 43 and my wife is 41 and we have a 13 year old and a 10 year old. One of the many special things about these islands is that they seem to attract like minded people who, regardless of their hometown, share this wonderful approach to life. That "approach" means seeking a destination that requires you be a true participant, rather than merely an observer and "room service" patron, and treating the strangers you meet along the way as potential new friends rather than competitors for a spot in the buffet line.
Stay at (or "stand in line at") the Atlantis on Paradise Island and you'll know what I mean (or in Cancun or Orlando or Vegas or...)
We love and stay on MOW but I'm happy to be standing on any of these great islands. MOW is nicely located for visiting in every direction but we need to explore a bit further north to New Plymouth sometime soon.

My husband Ken and I divide time between Raleigh, NC and Hobucken, a little fishing village on Goose Creek Island, located in the Pamlico Sound (mainland side of the sound...40 miles west of Ocacroke) sometimes referred to as "the Inner Banks". We are 40 and 47, and we hope eventually divide time between Hobucken and the Abacos. I first visited in 1998 for a friend's 40th birthday, brought my husband to Abaco (Lubbers) the next Christmas, and we celebrated Ken's 40th last October on Lubbers. As soon as we can sell our lot in the 4WD area of the Outer Banks, we hope to purchase a piece of sand in the Abacos. We love island life and everything that goes with it!

Rick & I are from Vista California which is about 30 miles north of San Diego and about 8 miles inland. We love to be out on the water fishing and had previously gone to Baja or Hawaii. When we stumbled upon Abaco on the net last summer, we knew it was the place for us! We celebrated my 50th birthday (Rick's 46-yep, I got myself a younger man!) and our 10th anniversary this past March on Lubbers. It was our first, but definitely not last, trip. We'll be there in April or May for 2 weeks and maybe even earlier in November! It's a long trip from San Diego but so worth it. IMHO nothing in Baja or Hawaii can compare to the Abaco water and beaches.

DaGoose, we were going to Hawaii for about five years and discovered TC and felt the same way that there was no beach on Maui, Kauai, Big Island or Oahu that compared. Our friends that we use to go with think we are crazy but than again they were never to Abaco. They feel as there would not be enough to do as they like to go for 2 months. We would do Hawaii for about 5 - 7 weeks and there is a lot more to do but that color of the water is so intriguing it keeps calling you to return!

My love and I are 58. We are from Va. Beach, VA but built a home in Suffolk, VA (home of Planters Peanuts) – a little more country than Va. Beach. I am retired and he has 3 years 9 months to go (for the second time) but who’s counting. We learned about Abaco from a friend 10 years before making our first trip there in 2002. Our third trip was this past May. We stay on Eastern Shores, MH and rent the same house each time and love it – guess you could say we are creatures of habit. When talking with a neighbor about our vacation she told me that her brother is building a rental, Barefoot Bay on Tahiti Beach – small world in surprising Suffolk. I love this board and post on occasion. I need to write a trip report with pictures –I’m way past due on that one. I notice a few folks on this board are from the Outer Banks. We are headed there next week for our annual family vacation – we love OBX too!! Next trip I’m thinking about trying out one of the other cays so I have been saving info on other rentals from these posts as references.

My husband and I are 48 years young. We have 2 children 24 & 21. We are from a small town near Bethany Beach Delaware. We took our first vacation to Elbow 14 years ago and fell in love with the area. Once or twice every year we would return to explore and enjoy such a beautiful and peaceful place. We discovered Lubbers a couple years after our first trip and bought land in 1999. We just finished our home on Lubbers mid summer, what excitment. Now we will return in November not only to enjoy our home on Lubbers but to the excitment of our daughter's wedding on the beach behind the church on Elbow.

We are 47 and 48 and the first and only time we visited the Abacos was in 2001 when we spent the winter there on our sailboat. We're returning in October for 10 days and we look forward to exploring once again! We're from Oxford, North Carolina; it's interesting that we have so many North Carolinians on this board!

Boca Sharon,
We've been staying at Fran's Fancy since about 1994. Love it and especially since they put up the gazebo and hammock on the dock. Last December we finally met the owner while waiting for the Hope Town ferry. I recognized him from the picture that used to be in the house. That December trip we stayed for the first time near Marsh Harbour just to try something different. Isn't FF a great place to stay? Our grandchildren now go with us and love that house, beach, dock and all.

Cathy,
just saw your reply re: FF. That house, dock, gazebo, etc. is pure HEAVEN to our family. I've spoken to Dick I don't know how many times, but of course, have never met he or Fran. One of my favorite evening pastimes is reading the guestbooks in the house of everyone's adventures. From the entries that Dick & Fran write, they exhaust me, especially Fran, with her seemingly endless energy! What hard work they have done to build and then keep up that house! We didn't get to Abaco this year, but are already planning next summer with another family of 4 which totals 8 and Dick says no to 8 so we're looking for a bigger place. It will be hard not to stay at FF, but I'm sure we can find something else.

I'm 43, live in Golden, CO. My first trip to Abaco (June 2006), we stayed in Guana. Loved it, can't wait to go back. The best time I've ever had. Great people!

Boca Sharon:
You might want to try south of Hope Town. We often spend our first week south of town and our second week at FF. I'm trying to remember but Tahiti Hai may accomodate 8. I know it has 3 bedrooms and a bed in the cupola with a sink in the room and a door that goes outside where you can walk completely around the upstairs area and they are great views. If I recall the bed up there is a double futon, kids like it. And it's just a short walk to Tahiti Beach. When my daughter and her family and great-grandma came with us in June 2005 they stayed there. My daughter was worried that after FF she would be disappointed but she loved it. Especially the golf cart ride to town (with a stop at Abaco Inn or Sea Spray for a drink). There are quite a few large houses on the south end. Good luck.
and we live in Murrells Inlet, SC (which if we can't be in Abaco, is not a bad place to live!) Ray's been going since he was a child, but my first trip was in 2002. As for favorite destination, that's a tie between Hope Town and Guana. I think we need to do more research...

We are 46 and have been coming to Abaco for 14 years. We live in Park City, Utah.....lots of snow. We finally bought some land on Green Turtle and love thinking about building a little place. We kept saying "we should've bought something" so we finally did. If you are thinking about having your own little spot you'll notice Abaco is being discovered. Every year the prices go up. Don't wait too long!
