View Full Version : first trip to Abaco
We have been considering taking our trawler to Abaco maybe in March or April of 2005. Would I be better off putting off a trip till 2006? I was wondering how fuel availability, marinas, stores, etc. will be by then. Everyone has been telling us for years how beautiful it is there but I also can believe how much those hurricanes could have devastated you. Can anyone give us some opinions? And maybe some nice places to visit or maybe a suggested route after we get over to West End?
We live in North Carolina and would travel to Lake Worth and clear in at west End.
Any information would be great as we have never been to the Bahamas.
Thanks,
Phil

Go, We were there just a few day after and it is still beautiful. And i'd guess 80% is already open again.
Read the Honeymoon report for our info.

As of yesterday all of the following were serving diesel fuel
Orchid Bay on Guana
Sea Spray and Lighthouse Marina Hope town
Jib Room and Boat Harbor in Mash harbor
man O War marina in Man O War
Traesure Cay fuel station in T cay
Not sure about GTC but I am sure they have fuel somewhere there. Fuel is not a problem at all anywhere here.
All of the food stores in marsh are back up and running with all the supplies you can find anywhere else
There is still quite a bit of dock work to do in MH but they are working on it and they are saying most of it should be done by NOV but remember Boat harbor and JIB room were almost unaffected and their facilities are available.
By january you probably will not be able to tell there was a hurricane at all and by April there will be newer facilities that were not there before..
