Cancun. LOL! Sorry, I could not resist.
The only Mexican fare that I have seen on Guana is the microwaveable frozen packaged stuff at Guana Harbour Grocery or Sea Shore Gifts. You never know though, times are a changin!

Yes but you've got most of the ingredients for fish tacos, right? Oh man, catch a mahi-mahi and BBQ it and chip it up into a taco with a little peppers and stuff and you're there. The California version has some cabbage, onion, and sour cream in it. The spices are cilantro and chili powder and whatever. You might need to bring your own tortillas. Theyre quite addicting.

When I bring my Mexican son-in-law to Abaco next time we'll have him cook. Of course, he will be frying up some fish he might catch. . . would that be Mexican food??!! Sorry, couldn't help myself either. Come to Arizona for some truly great Mexican food in the States. Tucson has fantastic little restaurants.

Yep Cathy, Tuscon has some really great Mexican restaurants! There is one in particular that is the best. I can never remember the name, but it's something like Casa de Coza. There are actually 2 locations and the one we frequented was in The Santa Rita Hotel. Haven't been there in 5 years but a year or so ago, Rachel Ray was in Tuscon and sure enough, she featured that restaurant on $40 a Day! I can't wait to get back there!
As far as Mexican food in the Abacos, we found flour tortillas, hot peppers, cabbage, limes, and sour cream at Solomon's. I'm not sure if we found cilantro. We brought Panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and Tapatio Hot Sauce from home so all we had to do was catch some fish. Rick did and we feasted on some of the best fish tacos anywhere!

Hey Tina,
Peg says that you can probably get a live cilantro plant at Pine Woods Nursery in MH. You really should have the cilantro for Mexican salsa and tacos. I've never had a "California" fish taco (with cabbage), but I'm very willing to try one.
Talk about food always gets people going, doesn't it?

Hi Bruce & Peg,
That's great, we'll definitely stop there while provisioning in MH and plant it wherever we stay, I'm sure the owners won't mind!
Yep, they're yummy with finely shredded cabbage. Also I mix 2 parts sour cream with one part mayo and then add some fresh lime juice and some chili powder for a sauce, it is so good. Of course you also need some kind of hot pepper sauce too.
It's only 10:30 in the morning and I'm thinking I may have to make some fish tacos!

You folks are killin' me! There's nothing like making your own fish taco and getting it "just" right. Ooh, and like warming that tortilla just perfect. I bet you could sneak just a little bit of conch in there if you wanted something a little different ... :)

Mangoes has fajitas on their menu- far from authentic, but not bad if you're really craving Mexican.
ElCahun, was that true about the Taco Bell franchise or did I not get the joke? :)

We found cilantro at the fish market down aways from Vernons, past munchies, and next door to the liquor store in Hoptetown, sorry dont remember name of store but I am sure someone on this board can tell exactly where it is if need be.
I was soooo excited to have fresh cilantro becuase i did not find it at Solomons in Marsh Harbour.
Back to the cottage on lubbers, fired up the grill for the fish, chopped my peppers, fresh garlic, onions, tomatoes, squeezed some lime , had a few drinks only because I was Sooo excited about the cilantro, and then OOOOOH NOOOOO I forgot to pack the tortillas in our rolling cooler we carried on.
After eyeing that wonderful rich butter and a bag of frozen shrimp that we bought at Solomons Grocery, a little rum drink or two........ the Lime/Cilantro/Pepper Scampi was born!
Cooking in Paradise can be fun!
