My wife and I are coming down with 3 other couples to celebrate our 20th anniversary in late December through first week in January staying at the HT Harbor Lodge. We know everyone is working hard on clean up and reconstruction (we live in Atlantic Beach, NC so have way too much experience with hurricanes and empathy for you folks). We are curious about the general condition and prognosis on the Hope Town Harbor Lodge and general condition of Hope Town facilities (restaraunts, groceries, etc) as best as can be predicted to be in place at that time. More concerned about the other couples we are bringing with us than ourselves since we will have a great time regardless. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks

I had lunch at the Hope Town Harbor Lodge yesterday. They are definitely open for business . The only thing that let you in that there was a hurricane was the dune was clear of sea oats ( which got washed away during the storm ) and a huge pile of sand that they had piled up when they cleared the deck. Not quite sure about all the rooms but they did have 4 rooms checking in this weekend according to Tom the manager.

Ebb Tide, Iggy Biiggy and Fantasy Boutique were open as well as both grocery stores. Lighthouse Marina gift store and liquor store were open and they were serving gas.

Captain Jacks survived OK as far as I could tell but they never open until NOV anyway. Harbors Edge has removed their whole deck and is closed but they are working hard to get things rebuilt. There was a crew of men working yesterday.

I only was in the downtown area so not sure about the Abaco Inn / Sea Spray area but Abaco Inn had said in the Abaconian that they were going to be ready for November???? I think I read, maybe someone else can clarify ........

Sea Spray is open and I heard the same thing about Abaco Inn.

HL was great when we were there just after Jeanne. I'm sure they will have the pool back open by then.

My only suggestion would be if you want to snorkle, bring your own gear. Lots of places lost equipment during the hurricanes and you may have a hard time renting it. That was our only regret. Also, I'd double up on the cash. If a place doesn't have power they can't take a credit card.

It's likely you will be able to phone or email most places as your vacation gets closer.

Have a great time!

Capt. Jacks was open last week, they may close for a few weeks, but I doubt it. Seaspray is open and the food is some of the best we've had there in the past years. Abaco Inn is working around the clock to open. They hope to have the bar and some rooms soon. They poured the pool this week, etc. Have a great trip.
