So many on Green Turtle - but a great afternoon stop is sitting on the screen porch at the Wrecking Tree with a conch basket. 20 days and counting...

On Elbow: Hope Town Harbour Lodge- - all the great food, incredible view, and wonderful service. And no trip is complete to Hope Town until you eat at Cap'n Jacks. . . great blackened dolphin or grouper and the view of the lighthouse and harbour are amazing. And of course, you can't pass up Munchies for a yummy conch burger and rum raisin ice cream cone. In Marsh Harbour we love Wally's food and it's especially great when Estin Sawyer is there to sing!!

Marsh Harbour: Jamie's Place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Can't beat hand-dipped ice cream cones! Java for great coffees and pastries. Not a restaurant, but the bakery downtown - can smell & taste that bread now!!!
Hopetown: Must agree with previous posts, Cap'n Jacks & On Da Beach - great food & OHHHH the views! Again, not a restaurant, but have to mention Vernon's.
Guana: How can you not mention Nippers and the great burgers!
Treasure: It was destroyed by hurricanes in 2004, but the beach bar/restaurant at Banyan Beach was one of the best beachside burger places we've been to.

Agree with previous posts. Would like to add the Jib Room in MH for the fantastic conch quesadillas and Laura's Kitchen in New Plymouth for the amazing cracked conch.

For a nice sit down meal really like Seaspray. Many items to choose from, good service and the food was really good. Pricing also decent. For short meals, lunch etc.: Carole and I loved Munchies. Great guy doing the work and a great lunch type meal. He sings pretty good too. On Da Beach, best view, great food and alot of fun. Nice T Shirt too. Key Lime Pie. Vernons rocks.

The Bluewater Grill and Red Sky lounge on Fishers Bay on Guana Cay is by far the best food and service in the Abacos. The grouper parm is to die for.

Favorite restaurant? I think I'd break it down into two categories, the casual and fancy. IE romantic, upscale meaning more expensive, and exclusively for dinner.

In the Cays my number one for consistent quality, preparation and service would be the Hope Town Harbour Lodge Dinning Room. Add to that, a drink afterwards at the adjoining Rays Bar (I always feel like I'm at "Rick's Place" when I'm in that bar).

I'm going to take a pass on my second choice in this department until after my upcoming trip. Last year I would have said the Green Turtle Club.

In the casual side I use cheeseburgers and conch chowder as my basis of comparison. And every year run the same comparison with my traveling friends as we we'll be doing in three weeks. The 2005 vote went like this,

In the Cheeseburger department, the winner still, hands down, was Nippers, a close second is Pete's Pub at Little Harbour and 3rd, Cracker P's on Lubbers Quarters.

Regarding conch chowder. My traveling companions made it their business on our 2005 trip to sample this soup at at least 8 locations. Her favorite goes to the Abaco Inn on Elbow Cay, runner-up the Wrecking Tree on Green Turtle and last but not least the light creamy white version at the Hope Town Harbour Lodge.

PS. For those of you who remember, the ultimate romantic dinner was always at the New Plymouth Inn and why so many of us would like so see it be restored to the days of old. But that's another story being discussed on another string.

To be fair, in recent times we've been flying over almost exclusively. So, I have to say we stay on Green Turtle Cay and Elbow Cay and therefore are primarily limited to evening activities and restaurants in these areas. What I could offer about other places dates back to my last trip by boat in 2002.

I would have to go with the pavillion on MOW on saturday nights. They have the best lamb chops I have ever tasted. For lunch Capt. Jacks or one of Love's fried fish sandwhiches at Orchid Bay.

They have some fantastic fish sandwiches! "Sandwich" just doesn't do it justice - it's some of the best seafood I've ever had! (and I've had some pretty tasty seafood here in the "Seafood Capital of South Carolina":) )

In Marsh Harbour, Snappa's , across the street from Wally's, serves up grilled foods...excellent for a casual outdoor type dining experience. Mangoe's , just down the street, is back to Bahamian style foods as well as burgers, etc. Years ago the Hurricane Libby was Mangoe's house drink, now under new management, the house drink is the Mango Millenium. Wow...tasty and refreshing.
For delicious food and eye catching presentation, you might want to visit Hummingbird Restaurant , which is in the plaza on the right just before you make the sharp turn to head toward "the strip" in Marsh Harbour.

We only had HTHL on our last visit, but I loved their Conch Chowder (I think the shot of sherry is what makes it special;) )

Where in Hope Town is Vernon's? The vincinity, landmarks, etc? We're staying in a cottage on the Atlantic side, a little north of White Sound. Kinda looking for places our 15 y.o. can ride his bike to, look around, eat and stuff.
Thanks!

Forgive the crude directions - I know someone will do better...
Vernon's is not on the road closest to the harbour, but there are plenty of "side roads" to cut across. If you cut across on Lovers Lane, turn right and Vernon's is right there. Your 15 year-old will love Munchies, which is right across the street from Vernon's. Great ice cream, sandwiches, and other "munchies". We stayed at Harrison House (right beside Vernon's) and if we were home, the kids were at Munchies. (You think Vernon's baking is tempting, imagine having your window open right onto his bakery! We would call out the window to save us a loaf!)
Also - if he turns left at Lovers Lane, he will run into the basketball court and pool (open???) where there are usually local kids shooting hoops - he can jump in a game, I'm sure.
