View Full Version : Things are looking up on Guana Cay!
As I rode around the island yesterday, I noticed that there are new leaves sprouting on trees and bushes, flowers are blooming, roofs are being repaired little by little, Bluewater Grill is open, Nippers is open, Guana Sunset Bar is open, Orchid Bay restaurant re-opens this week-end, some of the locals have gone back out for crawfish, and second homeowners are coming back. No hurricanes can take away the beauty of Guana. It may have taken a licking but the beaches are still beautiful, the water is still as blue as ever and the great people are still here. Just remember that we still do not have phone service but we do have power! Sadly, it looks like Guana Seaside is the only place that will not be up and running, at least until December 1.
Sidney and I will be leaving for a much needed vacation and will be gone for two weeks. So, if anyone out there needs any pictures or answers about their homes here on Guana, let me know by tomorrow because we will be leaving Guana on Thursday.
I know that by the time we get back, some of you will be heading over here and I hope you'll stop by and say hi! Just find the hardware store and you'll find one or both of us. See you soon AbacoPeach and Jerry and "Flying Nun" Maggie.
Remember "Its Gooder on Guana" as Milo's t-shirts used to say!

Thanks, Pat for the optimistic report! Jim said I would be pleasantly surprised at the amount of green in our little garden. I can't wait to get back to GGC - will you and Sidney be back by time we get down - I think Oct 30th? Enjoy your time away and if you get up to Delmarva, give us a call and we'll eat some crabs together.
Hey girlfriend! Yeah, we'll be back here on the 28th. We're heading to West Virginia to the mountains and who knows where else we might turn up? LOL!!
Its looking good here!!!!!

Pat,
Thanks for the info on Henry Sands and for trying to get in touch with Ruth for me. I've been following your posts and all your pictures, and I'm sorry you'll be on vacation while I'm there. Would've loved to have met you!
Be sure to bring some warm clothes to WVa. My husband was rafting up there this weekend and the lows were in the 30s already!
Have a great vacation, and thanks again for your help.
Suzy
Suzy, I printed out all the posts for Ruth so I will track her down tomorrow for you.
Sorry I'll miss you all but there is always the NEXT trip to Guana!!!

Enjoy your much deserved vacation!!! Will see y'all in November. Tell Randy and Veola that we are thinking of them if you get a chance to see them before you leave!!
Will do, they have been working their behinds off like everyone else and I know they will be glad to hear that you are thinking of them. They ask me all the time if I have heard from you and Jerry.

Thanks for that message about Guana and the recovery. There is a group of 8 of us travelling to the area in early November, doing some island hopping in 3 boats. I've been keeping up on the postings on this site following both storms and am constantly impressed by how everyone there plays the cards they have been dealt and just bounce back and get on with things. I can't imagine how tough it must be to rebuild after a hurricane. It certainly speaks to the character of the people in the Abacos and why visiting your establishments is so wonderful. Reading these reports and seeing the beautiful beach picture you posted makes me even more impatient to return to the area. Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet many of you in November! Steve H.

We are cruising around there starting November 3. Is Orchid Bay Marina open? Is the big grocery store at MH open and where can you dock on MH? I heard the Conch Marina and the nearby restaurants are ruined. Also can you tell me the condition of marinas and restaurants on Green Turtle and at Hope Town? What about diesel fuel?
