I have been lurking in the backround here for more than a year and am not planning the first trip for my wife and I to the Abacos - specifically Elbow Cay. I think I have settled on a beachfront house ("Beach Bags" between White Sound and Hope Town)) for the week of July 22. My question relates to docking a rental boat. The house has no private dock but indicates there is convenient docking at either White Sound community dock or the village docks. Without "rights" to a specific dock, is it practical to leave a rental boat at one of these locations for a week's rental?

Hi; The smaller the boat the more practical it would be, a 15' Whaler call easily fit where a 24 footer could not. You squeeze the bow in and put out a stern anchor to hold you off. The public docks in hopetown can get crowded, White Sound is less of a problem although last summer there was a deralict or two taking up space. Jim

Oh and check with the rental outfit, they may have a line on a better spot to keep the boat.

Better yet rent a home with a private dock. There are a lot of nice places to stay that have a dock. If you plan on moving arround a bit get a bigger boat so when the wind blows you do not get banged up on the water.

Probably talking about a 22' rental boat if that affects your opinion.

The "community dock" in White Sound is marginal at best, and I imagine it could get crowded in July. Good luck.

Been there-done it. Look for a place with a dock!
