The south side of Marsh harbour was slammed pretty well....BUT thanks to the preparation and forsight of Tom Leffler and Jason the dockmaster the Beautiful Marsh Harbour Marina and Jibroom REMAIN BEAUTIFUL!

Tom, Jason and others risked their lives to tend to the boats during the storm are were literally flushed out of the jibroom when the storm surge of roughly five feet came in before the eye of Jeanne. These guys courageously went out in the flooding and 120 Plus winds braving flying debris to secure boats that had snapped their lines. Because of their preparation the boats and the marina came through virtually unharmed..when I can figure out how to insert pics I will get some to you guys.

Thanks to HAM radio and Globalstar satellite phones I was able to provide communications to the world after the storm...Other HAMs were terrific as well helping...Carol on Gusto, Barbara on Evening Star...Mark on Pleades provided Hopetown Fire and rescue with his Globalstar sat phone and provided numerous health and welfare calls for the community. Chris Prewitt provided his tireless assistance on the HAM radio, with the Hopetown fire and rescue assoc. and with getting diesel to Pattie and Bob since they now live on an island...Eastern Shore.. In general, people have been very good about helping each other....

As of Oct 2 there are some phones with long distance and OII internet is up! Electricity is spotty. Water is on. There is food in the stores....The Duke of Topsail brought in some the other day..yesterday I think.

Eastern Shores is pretty trashed..the road is washed out from around Blue Dolphin to just about Crossing Beach. It took me over an hour to walk and crawl over the debris to get to Crossing Beach from the Toler's house the day after the storm....All are well, no deaths and no serious injuries...
Cheers

Hi Marti, thanks for update, so happy your'e OK. We were blessed too- for some reason went to Freeport/Bradford yard, where Pecheur has survived with only minimal damage. Haven't been lucky hearing from Silk Purse, have you--worried about them as they were in the centre when it hit FL?? Any news of other boyscout boats? Highland wanderer--we last saw them at Conch inn? Heard Ciganka was OK. Take care, MarieX

Hi Marie,
Silk Purse did okay...they were I believe in Ft. Pierce. Spoke with them on the SSB the other morning. Glad you did okay and more glad you did not stay here with your eight foot draft...

I had over 3 dozen lines on my boat and two anchors...thanks to Tom and Jason here at the Marsh harbour marina...they prepared the unattended boats that many owners left without quadruple lining, removed canvas as best they could, anchored the boats and basically saved the day. During the storm they were literally flushed out of the jibroom with a five foot storm surge and had to find shelter I think in a car in the parkinglot..luckily they had no injuries...close call as a car in the lot was smashed by a piece of flying roof from a house across the street.

Frances was an eternal blow but Jeanne was much worse with flooding...Patti Toler's place is an island..roads all washed out and littered with debris...

Will be in Annapolis Oct 6th and back the 12th..wish me luck I hope to take the boat back to Marathon.
Cheers
