Anyone know of a site that gives wave height info for the Sea of Abacos? I've checked on the 'Wx Underground' and 'Baro Bob's' site but can't seem to find any links. Maybe I'm just missing it.
I'm trying to get an idea of wave conditions for a given wind direction and speed. I read in a trip report somewhere that even in '25 knot winds' the Sea will only have 'a foot or so of chop.' Is that realistic? Sailing around Corpus Christi Bay, Texas, which is similar in depth to the Sea of Abacos, with that kind of wind we can get 3-4ft chop in short period which makes for a really miserable ride.
Thanks!

Barring a large weather system, it is( especially in summer) very easy to get around Sea of Abaco because the chop is usually not very big. Lots of charts and graphs on Barometer Bob or in Dodge guide.

Bren737,
A lot has to do with wind direction.
The Sea of Abaco is between the mainland, and the Cays / reef so you are often in the lea of one or the other.
You may see 3-4 foot chop directly in front of one of the cuts with East thru North winds.

I agree with R. You will also get that nasty 3 to 4 foot chop if the wind direction passes over a long fetch. Don't believe anyone who says the Sea of Abaco never gets sloppy. Wind direction is everything.
I have never seen a site that gives wave height on the Sea of Abaco.

In my experience over the past decade or so I've seen the Bight be downright nasty at times. Other times it's pristine. The best can be flat calm, the worst can approach fives and the only transport out there were the ferries.
Ya just gotta be there...

Thansk for all of your inputs. That's what I was assuming. We'll hope for winds under 20!
