View Full Version : "Mayor" Glenn Laing of Guana Cay
Glenn Laing, who worked for years at Guana Seaside Village and now is at the Bluewater Grill suffered a stroke on Sunday. He is coming along really well but is in the hospital in Freeport at Rand Memorial. I have no idea how long he might be in the hospital. I have been told that he has regained some feeling in his arm and hand. He is talking but doesn't remember having the stroke.
I have debated back and forth with myself about whether I should post this information but I know that many of you know Glenn personally from your visits to Guana Cay over the years. I thought it might be good if you all have any good words for Glenn that you might post them here or e-mail me directly patweatherford@msn.com and I will share them with him by printing them and getting them to him in Freeport or saving them for his return to Guana Cay. If anyone would prefer to send a card, you can send them to Glenn Laing

Jamie Bethel, who drove Johnny's boat to Marsh Harbour in the middle of the night with Glenn, Nick Otton of Guana Rescue who promptly responded and took control of the situation, and PJ Marks a new homeowner on Guana and a pilot with his own plane on the tarmac at Marsh Harbour. In the middle of the night, PJ Marks, Nick and nurse from the Marsh Harbour Clinic flew Glenn to Freeport to get the much needed MRI to see what was happening. PJ and Nick returned to Guana by 5 am the next morning, totally exhausted, but glad that they got Glenn to the proper place to assess him.
We were all very upset about Glenn, but things look so much better for him now, and we are glad that he will be okay.

My wife and I were lucky enough to meet and spend time with you at Guana Seaside last August. You made an incredible impression on us with your friendliness and outgoing attitude. We both just wanted to wish you the very best and hope that you recover completely and very soon !!!!

I'm not even going to try to figure out how long it is, but Glenn has been a friend since he brought me my first cold clear Beck's at Guana Beach Resort. He is a shining example of the friendliness and helpfulness that is the Abacos. Glen, you're one of the true gentlemen we know and Fran and I wish you a speedy recovery.

I received this today and wanted to share it with everyone.
Hi Pat, just read the board information on Glen. I thought you should
know that there was one more hero that played a part in that drama.
Gary Homiak, vacationing here, and acquainted with Glen, learned about the
emergency that evening, and ran down to the dock. He was just in time to
meet the truck delivering Glen to the Gov. Dock.
Gary assisted in getting Glen into the boat, and cradled Glen in his arms
all the way to MH, talking into his ear, and making him squeeze his right
and left hands, and move his right and left leg, and keeping him awake.
He further was in the clinic examining room with Glen, and then to the
plane, answering questions, etc. Gary in a NH cop, and went into "rescue
mode", as his wife proudly says.
Gary is my son in law, and needless to say, we are VERY proud of him. He
is a very caring person, and is fond of Glen.

Mainlanders probably have a vague idea but it doesn't come up as often. Islanders know that one true thing. We all need each other. And your neighbors will come to your aid. Because people are basically good, not evil. And we are our brother's keeper.
