I hate to admit it, BUT been dere - done dat. You know, it is cheaper to pay for a year of Vonage service and use it when on Guana then to pay roaming charges or a buck a minute.
Actually, none of the above are totally reliable.

When I first started coming over here in the early '90s I had a Motorola analog "brick phone". Rememer those things? It worked great here, it worked great in the middle of the Gulf Stream. I think roaming charges were $0.25 a minute.
Unfotunately they used technology that was too easily pirated. Plus I think there were some scalability issues.
Ah, the good old days, when only the technorati had technology.
Wow, we have been told that Cingulars' charges vary greatly, from too much to their forgetting to bill you but your charges seem pretty high. Last May we paid about $1.60 per minute, and the only reason we keep the Cingular phone, is that it always seems to work in Abaco.

When I was in Abaco in May, I had my Cingular phone, it wouldn't work to make or receive calls, but since I don't wear a watch I kept it on in my pocket to check the time. When I got back a month later I found $82 in international calls on my bill, when I called Cingular they told me that even though I couldn't get reception to use the phone, couldn't answer or make any calls, the network "found" me in the Bahamas and I got billed for every incoming call while I was there, at international rates - how's that! It took me about two hours and three phone calls to finally get them to take the charges off the bill.
The moral of the story, when in Abaco, you really don't need to know what time it is, and if you do, buy a watch, it's cheaper.
PS When Vonage comes out with cell phones, I'l be the first to sign up.
