Great forum. I am a new member from Minnesota trying to plan a vacation to Abaco. We will probably book Bahama Beach Resort as it looks like it suits our needs and has a beautiful beach. The beach, water clarity and overall view looks a lot like the Akumal area of Mexico. I have tried the search function to find some basic info without bugging you all, but have a question about mosquitoes. I notice that many resorts have screened in balconies. Are the skeeters bad and if so what times of year are the worst. We typically vacation in February or March to get away from the snow and cold. Would late March be a good time to vacation in the Bahamas? Some have posted that it is rather windy during this time. Are jellyfish typically a problem in April and May as they are in Mexico? :)

Check out Abaco's Weather From a Visitor's Perspective (http://www.************/AbacosWeather.html).
More wind = less bugs, more rain = more bugs, summer = more bugs, sunset/sunrise = more bugs. Bring a good DEET-containing repellent and you'll be fine. I think sunburn is more of a problem (especially in the spring) for folks who don't have a base tan.
Don't sweat jellyfish, they're rarely a problem and we spend a lot of time in the water. If you're worried, check out Safe Sea (http://www.nidaria.com/).

Another newbie question. The search function tells me that beer is $35 per case:eek: and that you can bring a case with you. I am guessing that if you drink mass quantities of beer, and if there are 4 people in your party, that you can bring 4 cases of beer? Also can you throw a cooler on your golf cart when you are touring Abaco island from Treasure cay. Not advocating drinking and driving, but drinking and riding. It's cold and snowy up here and it's affecting my mind adversely.
Good day,
Beer was $41 per case when I bought it last.
I personally don't think that the $20 - $25 savings on a case is worth carring an extra twenty pounds thru the Airports, plus depending on your airline to Abaco you are limited as to the total weight of your luggage. (40 lbs per person in some cases)
It is no problem carring a cooler with you while driving Cart, or Car.

R.

Thanks R, good advice. I am just in the budgeting mode looking at ways to cut expenses. We usually like to drink the local beer, Kalik I understand, anyway. In fact beer has gone up to about $20 per case here, so whats another $10 or so per case. Nothing against Spring breakers, but am hoping that late March is not a bad time to come to Treasure Cay. We are mid to late 50 somethings and dealing with teenagers and pets is not our idea of fun (anymore).

Not enough night life and big crowds to satisfy the typical Spring Breaker. No worries.
Spring break should not effect you, Treasure Cay is not "party central", thank God.
I think you will find it very laid back, and calm around Treasure.

that the golf cart should be used in Treasure Cay only. It is NOT for touring Abaco Island. You'll need a real car for that......just didn't want you to be disappointed. If you were on one of the outer Cays, then you can take your cart anywhere......TC as well as the outer Cays is beautiful....Ken

Never experienced a bug problem on Elbow Cay during late February, early March anyway. I would also suggest buying the Kalik on island as well, tastes better that way. No springbreakers to worry about. Have fun!!
