I would love some advice if you have some experience with shipping a boat from Ft. Lauderdale to Marsh Harbour. We will be going to Elbow Cay for 5 weeks in Feb/March and would like to take our boat over. We do not want to run it over ourselves. We would love to load it up with windsurfers, surf board, etc. and ship it over. Any suggestions or knowledge of a company who does this?

Thank you very much!

probably have to pay duty which would make it prohibitive

You would get by a whole lot cheaper to run it over yourself or hire someone to do it for you! If you do this you only have to pay for the cruising permit, if you ship it over you have to pay duty on the value of the boat plus frieght and stamp tax!!

contact Anthony Edgecombe, licensed Captain, Treasure Cay - 242-375-8211 cell, great local knowledge. He has run our's over for years when time or weather prevented us from doing so.

Might be time to check out Traveling to Abaco in Your Boat (http://www.************/TravelinginyourBoat.html).

not in Fall/Winter, eh?

bad time of year for crossing in a small boat.

i advise sticking with the shipping idea but to explore putting up a bond for customs guaranteeing boat will be returned to the states before 6 months.

An Abaco end customs broker can advise you on the feasibiolity of this.

as i remember, it helps a lot to have an Abaco bank account. in the bad old days, it used to be that one's local bank aranged the bond as a courtesy for peanuts.

The point about potentially bad weather in Feb/March is well taken, although it appears that this party has enough time to sit in South Florida and wait for a good weather window. Even if they are able to avoid paying import duty on the boat, the shipping cost may be prohibitive.
