Well the end of our trip is drawing near. We have a great time. Been all over and even enjoyed Bakers several times. What a shame if things do not change we may never ever get to enjoy that because of the evil American Investors. However during this stay we did discover the BUGS!!! In March of this year when we were down no bugs to speak of. Well on with the cure.

1. Buy a bottle of VODKA (Balalaika CHEAP!)

2. Pour into a bowl. ( So you don't look like a lush when somebody walks in on you)

3. Wash Cloth dipped in it rub it all over any bites you will have from the visit.

4. Itching stops and it feels quite refreshing as the alcohol dries.

We can only figure out that it is something in the Vodka makes this work because just regular rubbing alcohol did not do the trick. It either works or gets whatever the bug left behind drunk. This is the best relief we found. We have tried OFF, Skin so Soft, Neem and every other OTC item we could find. This research was provided by 1 Paramedic, 1 Lab-Tech and X-Ray Tec, plus 2 Paramedic/RN's and 2 teenage girls. I pledge to anybody that uses this dontate or buy a t-shirt from Save Guana Cay Relief.

Is the vodka supposed to prevent getting bites or stop the itch from bites you already have? Or did you just nip a little vodka in between swabbing and that just made you feel better??!! :)

I think after the bites the vodka feels good. It doesn't stink like ammonia or other home remedy and it sounds like good party fun! Thank goodness they're not coating themselves in brown Betadyne or something, like doctors sometimes do, as this could scare the locals. I look forward to seeing how the test crew is doing on their new anti-bug regimen.

As for sippin' vodka, we've been very please with Tito's Handmade Vodka made in Austin Texas; it's distilled 6 times and quite nice with fruit juice.

So far we only discovered this for after the bug bites to stop the itching. It really works good. However after a full day at Nipppers and plenty of Frozen Nippers Juice I think I just dont give a hoot any more. However tommorow it will be back to the vodka treatment. 1 more full day then gotta head back late tuesday afternoon.

It was great running into your group today! Sorry we had to run but the power came back on and we had to go home and turn off the generator. Have fun the next few days, all of you.

Sorry we missed you. So far we have found cortizone, benadryl and goombays work the best.

I would sure like to know how to keep mosquitoes off my body. We were there the beginning of July this year and I was a virtually feeding ground for all the mosquitoes on the island. I had more than 100 bites and I used 98% deet. Any recommendations for future visits.

First off, let me say that I am sorry we didn't get to meet when you were here on Guana. One of the locals gents here swears that baby oil is all he uses to keep the bugs away! He says they can't bite through that oil.

Pat,

Sorry we didn't get to meet you and Sydney also. I've heard so much about you and just love all the pictures you post. Keeps us going till next visit. I may have to try the baby oil since I am living proof that Deet doesn't work. Hopefully, we will get to meet sometime soon. I just need to get back to Guana.

Take care,

Try Neem, I am not sure what the latest products out are, but I found that if I used the neem soap, when I washed off after a dip in the sea I rarley if ever got bit. I know that You can get the soap, and shampoo now. Hey it is worth the try, if it downt work, at least you have supported a local.n I can only say that it is what worked for me.

The only other place in the world that has mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds is the Adirondacks of NY! Up here we use "Old Backwoods"..Comes in an orange plastic bottle. Dont know if it is widely sold though. The mosquitoes wont touch you with it on, but, thats if you personally can stand the smell!
