I spoke with Harcourt Thompson at 8:15 AM EDT by sat phone as the eye of Jeanne was passing over MOW. He said the wind was as bad as Frances but wasn't going to last as long. The wind had come out of the north north west and apparently MOW's "surge proof" harbour isn't. Harcourt said there was 3 feet of water on the harbour road and all of the business buildings along the harbour were flooded with 2.5 to 3 feet of water. He will call agian as soon as the back side passes and I will post again.

In the meantime let's keep all of our Abaco friends in our prayers!

I heard from Harcourt again at 7:15 PM. All at MOW are safe!

Harcourt said the back side of the storm was worse and the damage in the harbour is extensive. Worse than Floyd or Betsy! Docks at Edwin's 1 are gone, many others damaged. Many boats in the harbour are damaged, on Dickie's Cay or missing.Water in Albury's Harbour Store was 18" deep, even deeper in the marina Dive Shop. Extensive tree damage. Major beach erosion. Some houses undermined on the beach side.

I know this is not what you want to hear but it is as reported.

Just remember all of our friends are safe! Let's be thankful for that.

I am concerned about the Sands and Albury family so that i can report to both sides of my family. Please respond with any info you have wether it be on people or property. Thanks

I just received a call from my husband, Doug Foust, who is on MOW with Ted & Jennifer Varnum. He was on the satellite phone which is being used for emergencies only. Everyone is OK - no deaths or injuries. He & the Varnums weathered it out at the Varnums on the Atlantic side. It wasa very powerful storm but much quicker than Francis. The bulk of the damage is to the harbor side as the winds came out of the W, NW & into the harbor. The island is naked of greenery. Jeff's grocery & The Dive Shop are in 2 feet of water. There are many power boats on the harborside road. Power & phones probably will be out for at least 1 1/2 weeks. Jeanne did a real number on the infrastructure this time. The Varnum's (Costalotta) & our house (SunDial) are OK. They have plenty of gas for the generator & plenty of food. He did not know about the airport or ferry service. People will try to call out when they can, but the satellite phone is being reserved for emergencies. Thank heavens everyone is safe.

Thanks to everyone for relaying info on MOW. I am a native of MOW living in SC now, and am very happy to hear there is no loss of life, as most of my family still lives there.

Our prayers are with all the islanders.

I am looking for any information on the boat Our Destiny that is in the eastern harbor (American Harbor) on MAN O WAR. It pulled its mooring into the mangroves during Floyd in 1999 but was fine after Frances. I would also like any other info on other boats in that harbor. THANKS

Thanks to everyone for the reports. Glad to hear everyone is OK, though it sounds like there was more property damage this time. Does anyone know how the docks just north of the Sail Shop fared? We have rented from the Swanks/Redith Sweeting there for a number of years.

Has anyone heard anything since yesteday morning about the severity of the damage in MOW?

Last night I listened to two Bahamian radio stations online and got some info about Abaco, but of course, no specifics about any of the cays.

FYI: Those radio stations are accessible @ www.DaBahamianTing.com (http://www.dabahamianting.com/)
At least they gave some information about Abaco, in general.

Hi, we are glad to hear that everyone at MOW is ok, and we look forward to our next visit.
Once again we are concerned and would like to find out about "Gitzi" a C and C 37 that is/was moored just off the main marina dock. She did fine during Frances and held her mooring but we are worried this time due to the hight tides.

Any news would be welcome, e mail is raymondykes@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Ray

According to website: www.hopetownfirerescue.com (http://www.hopetownfirerescue.com) cellular service has been restored.
I have been trying to call a couple cellphone numbers of family members in MOW and still have not been able to get through. Maybe only outgoing service available, I'm not sure.
Has anyone been able to get through on a cellphone yet?

Thank you BlueCrab, for your postings, I find your info very valuable, and am glad that no one is hurt in MOW.

I have family in MOW Lambert, Theresa, and Ruth Albury. I have not heard from them, but know from your postings that everyone is ok.

Please if anyone can relay this message, to my family in MOW, we took a direct hit from Jeanne also, (here in Palm Bay, Florida), please let them know that everyone here is doing fine, no injuries. We have no phone or power either, but will try to get in touch asap.

Tito is also here in FL, w/us and he is doing fine.

Thank you, God Bless and a healthy and speedy recovery to all.

From Tampa, US Airways has a connecting flight through W Palm and Continental has connecting flights through Miami. No flights until Marsh Harbour airport is re-opened.

I spoke with continental just now and they assure (?) me that they will fly to Marsh Harbour tomorrow (Wednesday) from W.Palm. As that is not a regularly scheduled day for this time of year and they did not fly in today it may be accurate info. I hope so because I have reservations on Thursday and she said they will be flying. I will check again tomorrow.

I heard from Samantha Sands today at about 12noon. Approximately 45 docks on the harbor are either completely gone or need major rebuilding. Tommy and Chris at MOW Marina had a tremendous amount of damage to docks, restaurant, office and dive shop. Everything from Edwin's Boat yard to Waterways Rentals was at least 2 feet underwater. Folks were driving their boats up and down the harbour road.

Wells' house on Dickey's Cay had water inside but has subsided, however their dock is almost gone. Miraculously, their boats are fine and still affixed to the lower pilings.

Lots of debris in the harbour and washed up on to Dickey's Cay. Aynya House on Dickey's Cay had 2 feet of water in their Dock House down at the harboour with the wood floors being completely warped. Aynya House up on the hill lost Gazebo (roof and floor of gazebo hanging on a wind and a prayer) on Sea of Abaco side and the cute decorative boat on the same side is gone. Aynya house on had some water leakage but not bad.

Samantha's words were that everyone is fine but Jeanne is going to take much longer than Floyd and Frances to get back to normal. The eye lasted 3 hours. I was just trying to get to the status of boats, but the communication was cut off. Cell phones are sporatic and land lines will take a long time to get back on.

We will try to call her again tonight to get a better update and then will forward on any new news to this message board.

My godfather, Marcell Albury was planning on visiting me this week in Wisconsin but postponed due to Jeanne. I have been watching this board for news. I know everyone has been reported OK but I am still so anxious for news about everyone I love so much - Ralph and Matt and families, and my dear friends Agnes and Blake and their entire family. Anyone in touch with the Albury's, please let them know the Kiefert's and the Thompson's send them love. Our thoughts are with you. We hope to hear from you all soon.

Hi everyone:

I received a voicemail from Edie Weatherford on MOW this afternoon (she borrowed someone's cell phone). She confirms that all her Weatherford relatives are ok, both on MOW and in Marsh Harbor, and reiterates what we've heard from others about the settlement harbor. "45 docks gone, all the waterfront businesses flooded and boats onshore".

Edie sounded tired but thanked God that everyone was alive and well. It's unfortunate I wasn't able to get her call and ask her more specifics. If I hear any more, I'll post.

There is no power on Guana and no phones. MH airport is closed to commercial flights. MH was heavily damaged and I did hear on the Cruisers Net that Lofty Fig would be open again today or yesterday. I live on Guana and can tell you that we don't know when we will have power or even inter island phone access. We communicate by VHF. There is some power in MH and the last I heard there is still no power in MOW or Hopetown. Its not a pretty picture here in the Abacos. Our days consist of cleaning up, going for ice, buying fuel for our generators and crashing to our beds at night. We got news that there is no propane in MH and it might be a week before there is anymore to buy. Orchid Bay has been having problems with the fuel pumps and are only selling fuel at certain times during the day. The grocery store is open for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon because they have a generator but it is used to keep the food cold and it gets pretty darn hot and sticky inside the building.

My son and I are scheduled to fly to MHH on Thursday. Planning to do some damage control at our home on Dickey's Cay. Any information we can get about availability of the basic stuff (bottled water, fuel, boat rental?) and basic services (phone, cell phone, ferry) would be helpful. We don't plan to stay long, and aren't planning on having the comforts (more like a camping trip, I think). We would also be interested to know what we might bring along to help others in the community. Thanks for any information.

Saturday update:

Land line phones are working on MOW (at least periodically).

Customs agents at the airport were not thrilled about bringing in fresh vegetables. They allowed them through but not without a reprimand.

Air travel, ferries and taxis all up and running in MH.

To my many friends at Man O War, I have been praying for you all and may Jesus give you strength to come through this one too.

I am thankful that I was able to see and visit with many of you in July and everything was just so beautiful. Beaches in tact and flowers so bright.
I know that you will be stronger through this.

Jennie, Lily, Dollie and Agnes my pictures came out so beautiful and I will be sending some to you all. What a reunion we had. SO many wonderful memories of days gone by. Sorry to hear about your Dad, but what a reunion with Una and so many others.

Love to Scott and Kay, Ritchie and Sylvia, Patricia and Elsie and many others.
