We are in the eye of the storm! Only a few minutes to post!
The town is flooded from what I have heard on the VHF and We lost our Dingy.
Everyone is safe, lots of water in houses; I see shingles off at Heidi and Colin’s
Paul. Roger and Skip your houses look fine this far no rood damage. This storm isn't tossing the sand like normal.
More after this is over!

We are in the eye of the storm! Only a few minutes to post!
The town ( Guana Cay) is flooded from what I have heard on the VHF and We lost our Dingy. The VHF is busy and everyone I can heard sounds safe.
Lots of water in houses; . This storm isn't tossing the sand like normal. It is stronger then Francis or maybe it's just because it's comming from a different direction but it certainly feels worse.
More after this is over!

Mike just came back from town, Water covering the docks in Orchid Bay and the whole town. Water all the way back to behind Milo's. Paul and Erin lost all their windows in the new house. JR's boat broke off it's morring but are getting it now.Tammy and Graig lost a piece of their roof. But with all that said it's not as bad as Floyd , might be more like Francis but we'll have to see after we pass through part two,and we are all safe on the Cay. Bruce and Judy are doing fine the new felt has held.

Tami when you say in the "town" is that meaning the settlement is flooded? I am not sure if Milo's is near my mom's place or not. I pray that Pat and Sidney are ok. If they are on the VHF could you please tell them that I love them and for them to stay safe!! Looks like this one will be going right over my area this time. We have been lucky too many times here in Orange Park, Florida!!! All of you are in my prayers!!!!

Hello,
We still can’t open the doors as the winds are gusting but we think it will be over in a hour or so . We can’t wait to move around. Judy and Bruce lost their front deck roof and a small section of their roof. There isn’t much else I can report until we can get outside.
Everyone is safe but from the VHF reports we had more damage with this one then we did with Frances.
I’ll try to report this evening after we can go out and look around.

We haven't been able to get back out since the eye. We are still having strong winds with gusts! My connection is on again off again. UGH! I thought this would have been gone by now. Bruce and Judy are at their house with Bob, they will be staying here with me until they can dry out. Paul and Erin lost all the windows on the beach side in the new house, Bob lost the Yellow house it fell into the sea!
Have a safe flight! Love you all!

We need someone on Scotland to look at the runway and tell us if we will be able to land tomorrow. If any one on Guana has seen my house (the round pink on eat the top of the hill) can you let me know if it is still there! Any info on it's condition would be appreciated.
All went well here in Nassau, just a little wind. I spent the night watching the thing approaching you on the tv. Glad to hear that everyone is okay - that is the important thing.
How about the public dock? Did it survive?

This from Guana Seaside Village:
Good Morning,
It's about 3:00 am. I made my way down to the resort and fired up the generator. To my suprise I was abale to get on line.
The worst is over here, just a light 20 mph breeze. The resort suffered a little more damage. We lost part of the dock and there is more water damage as well as roof. There is stuff everywhere. I have to wait till daybreak for the full affect, but it is a mess. The water came up mush higher in this one. I saw Figi's dock next door at about high tide. It was at least a foot under water. I don't know if you recall where the black top road ends, but at that poit there was about 3 feet of water. I drove to town in the eye. Easy's area was under about a foot at that time. There were a few lines down then. I haven't heard anything since the eye went through. The back side of the storm was wicked. Winds from the SE. That's what made the mess here. at least the tide was on the way down then.
Heavy flooding in Marsh. They said on the VHF the telephone building had 3 feet of water in it. Most of the docks are gone also.
The Ridgehouse lost the roof over the back deck. we were looking out back when we saw it fly over. Must have flown 100'. It took a little of the main house roof with it. There were pices of insulation flying everywhere. It caught on the trees and looked like a cotten field.
The most amazing sight is the Yellow Ocean House. It is totally destroyed. Cistern broken on the beach, most of the house blew back about 20 to 50 feet. Parts of it are on one of the other cottages. It looks like it exploded. I guess it took some heavy waves as well as wind. A very wild site.

A thought which might be of interest to all that access this message board:
I considered purchasing a 'sat. phone after hurricane Floyd. Then I considered that it had been 30 years + since we saw anything like that and forgot about it. Now, just 4 years later we have had two more. It reminds me of the blizzard we had in 1986 in the south of England, "how about a snow plough?" said I "This is the first blizzard in the South in living memory - waste of time," was the response. Well, three years later, and three blizzards later, I still didn't have a snow plough, but then I bought one in in 1989. Since then - no blizzards!!
With the enormous number of people who are genuinely concerened about events in Abaco communities in the aftermath of such storms, these Sat 'phones are a Godsend. Why do we not, collectively, fund a small fund whereby sat 'phones could be purchased and placed in each settlement, to be used by those wishing to communicate with their loved ones offshore, and for those that need info on loved ones in Abaco. Surely this would be relativley inexpensive, shared among the large number that we are.
Just a thought...
PS: Based on my experince of the blizzards in UK, maybe if we bought enough Sat 'phones, we would stop the hurricanes??
Reagrds, and best wishes to all,
Roger Phillips

My kids and I stayed in the yellow house in June for ten of the best days this year and while it sad to hear you news, and while it means alot of work for Bob, Jeri and alot of $$$, its a relief not to hear of any serious injuries:) .

We have been getting some video of MH and Freeport from the US tv stations (naturally nothing on ZNS), and it looks horrifying. Reading the posts does not sound much better. I like the idea of the satellite phone. You'd think Batelco would get involved in that!

Hello,
I drove around the island this morning and wanted to give you all an update.
The consensus on the Guana Cay is that this was far worse then Francis and caused much more damage to the houses. No one has been hurt. I will send individual reports of what I have seen as damage to or have heard from others. The whole island is in a clean up mode right now and we are all trying to help as many people as we can. As airports, power and other information is available I will post an update. Home managers are checking out all the house now and some will come here and email reports directly to you. The water left the settlement right after the eye, some think it was caused by the back up in Marsh Harbour. Every thing on Front street looks fine with the exception of damage to shingles and roofs and a few power lines that snapped from the houses.. The tide level looks normal now. Orchid Bay is opening for 1 hour to let us get fuel and Sylvan's is open from 1:30 to 3:30.
The Scotland Cay airport is not open and the Cay had a lot of damage according to Daniel. Everyone that stayed on the Cay is fine and had no injuries.
Tami, could someone try to reach Scotland Cay on the vhf ch.88 or 16 after the winds become bearable. Hello,
The news this morning is that we won’t have phones for 5 to 6 weeks.
MOW’s power cable snapped like ours did in Frances and they will be without power for weeks. We will also be without power for several more weeks as BEC will not turn our generator back on until all the cables to the houses are repaired and there are a lot of them that need work.
The ferry's are running, the docks in Marsh Harbour's harbor got really damaged but the Conch Inn's docks are aparently ok.

Thanks again Tami for taking time in these very adverse circumstance to let us all know what is going on.
Hope BEC and Batelco folks are overestimating how long before basic services are back. If any of us knew how to get a main phone line or power line back up, we would be down there doing it!
Take care and be careful.

Between Skip and Bettyann and others over here, we are here for you and please do not hesitate to ask. Love to you, the boys, Mike and all the folks. Nancy P.S. West Palm Beach is functioning okay. Storm came in at almost the exact time, three weeks to the minute, only 2 miles apart from Frances.

Glad you guys fared a little better this time, Nancy. We lost power here in Lighthouse Point, but only for about 20 hours, which of course was not a big deal. I am feeling for those guys in the Vero/Sebastian area, and all the Abaco folks.
Heard from Mayor Glenn before Jeanne hit, and they were still reeling from Frances. He was in Marsh. They had no food or water after Frances and were just beginning to get themselves back together.
We hope to get over in early November and will be happy to bring an extra suitcase filled w/anything anyone would like to request. That's over a month from now, but some things may still be scarce and we would be honored to help.

Just received a call from Bev Roselli. She and her husband, John, own "Frangipani Cottage" right next to the blue cottage, on the Sea Side, just a little north of DBR.
They are in Port St. Lucie, hit pretty hard by Jeanne, w/out any power, and asked if I could help them find out if anyone might know how their cottage fared during the Hurricane. The caretaker is Frances. If anyone can provide any info, I will relay it to them.
Many thanks.

I own the "Blue Moon" Cottage next door to the Roselli's. We had only minor damage from water seeping in and broken outdoor lights and antennas.
I believe that Troy would have noticed any damage to their house while checking mine. He did not indicate any problems. I think they already had some screen damage from Frances.

Hello,
I just wanted to let you know that I am leaving for Nassau in the morning for a much need break. I think I’ll just move into the Spa! I won’t be posting or receiving any emails until October 6th when I return. I think we have gotten just about everyone information that they needed but if you have a last minute question or request please email me tonight.
Thanks
Tami

Hello!
I have called them on the radio for the last house and haven't heard back. I'll keep tring even if I have to drive over there. It's been raining heavy here all day so when it slows down I'll make a dash for it.
Hi Tami,
My caretaker is Laura and Alton Sands and I know that they have no way of getting in touch with me. If possible could you contact her for an update on my house. Thank you for all of your time and effort. Barbara Wahl/Nina

Hi Tami,
Thanks for a job well done. You have eased the minds of many letting all know that every one on Guana and other areas are fine, which is the most important news. It is great having you there. Get to that spa...and have a few days of R&R with a great back rub.... Thanks again from all of us!!!!!

We would like some news on the ocean villa and beach villa area. It would be great if somebody could find donna Hudson and ask her if she has checked these areas.
Thanks Georg Gauger

I love you both and look forward to seeing you on your next visit. I'll let you know when we get power. Heard BEC was out here today and said that it's about a day or two worth of work to be done so we might get lucky. Cell phones and regular phones are a whole differnet story!
HUGS to you both!

Collective HUG to you and thank you so much for your reports from the war. Your new nick-name shall be Christina Almanpor reporting live from CNN. We all will be in this thing for the LONG HAUL and so we must pase ourselves - don't go out of the gate too fast - slow and steady wins the race in hurricane aftermath.

This message is for France Sands - Mrs. Grimes would like to know what you need as she would like to ship you a box of some supplies. What is the best way to get things to you? Our prayers and thoughts are with all.
